So I've managed to entirely miss swine flu and have caught the deadly man flu. Taken some ibuprofen but is there anything else I can do? 😎

Hi marc,

Just keep an eye on your bg readings, check for ketones, drink plenty of fluids, try to keep eating and take your normal insulin doses...if you have a temp they might need adjusting, if you not hungry or cant eat..drink sugary fluids or soup, custard, rice pudding, ice cream, have plenty of rest, take paracetomal.

Hope this helps and you feeling better soon

BS levels are OK weirdly. Did go up a few days ago but are largely where I want them.

Funnily enough Nathan's have done that before

As long as your bs levels are where you want them thats a good sign:D

Hmm it is weird.

OK regarding eating and drinking. Just feeling a bit shivery and achy.

just a few things i found :
step 1

Follow the meal plan. If the patient has nausea or is vomiting, choose soft foods or liquids. It's still important to eat to provide energy. Try soups, crackers, jello or toast. One cup of soup typically provides 15 grams of carbohydrates. If the patient cannot keep food down, try ginger ale. The sugar amount is okay since the patient is not eating.
#
Step 2

Take your temperature in the morning and evening. It's important to watch the fever because of possible infection. If you call a doctor, be ready to provide the temperature.
#
Step 3

Provide plenty of fluids. Vomiting or diarrhea can dehydrate the body. Provide salty liquids such as broth, bouillon or tomato juice. Have water available at all times. Urge the patient to drink half a cup of fluid every 30 to 60 minutes, even if she has to sip the water or fluid.
#
Step 4

Provide the diabetic's medication. Insure that you give any medicine or inject insulin as scheduled.
#
Step 5

Test blood sugar. It is advisable to test blood sugar levels at least every four hours while the patient is sick. You should check the blood sugar every hour if it starts to climb

Hi Steff. I'm not nearly that ill. :D

Hi marc,

You might have a bit of a temperature..take some paracetomal....usually a bit better that ibuprophen for this..

🙂

I hope you are feeling better. Paracetemol is better for reducing temperature. If you are all achey there are some things you can take together as the metabolise in different ways, ask for advice on this. Can't add to advice already given.

Aww poor you Marc , I hope you start to feel better soon 🙂 I would just pretty much agree with all the others on this , Paracetamol , and fluids , and try and rest up and keep an eye on those levels!!! Get Well Soon 😉

Hope you feel better Marc. Keep checking blood sugar, can't stress that enough, that was the mistake I made - feeling rough and not bothering, and before I knew it ketones appeared. Keep taking insulin too. Don't think that just because you may not be eating, or not eating much, you don't need insulin. It feels weird taking insulin and not eating but it can be important. Hope you have someone to help you as well. Drink plenty of fluids. Call your nurse if you are worried.

how are you feeling today marc, better i hope

A little better thanks. Loads of kids at school feeling ill so I've probably caught a bug off one of them.

Hi marc,

Glad you feeling a little better...nothing worse than feeling like rubbish...even worse when you got kids to teach....I would recommend a cattle prod in those circumstances....lol

I don't teach. I do the IT for a primary school. 🙂
