Im due to have the first eye injection tomorrow - however when we briefly saw the consultant he said there was a limited chance of it working due to me having had the macula odema for so long (four years). I've been reading about the injection and it could worsen my glaucoma (which is already only on the borderline before I need further surgery, but thankfully at the moment is stable) there is also a long list of potential side effects. I'm really not sure what to do and have not had the opportunity to discuss this through with an eye doctor. I'm not sure if I want to run risks if the potential benefits are low but if I say no I'm not sure if that will lead to them refusing treatment if I get other eye problems

You must do what you feel is right for you Amanda and never mind what they say. I'd have a talk about the options with the person who is supposed to carry out the procedure tomorrow and then decide. Other future treatments should not be affected by your decision this time. We're rooting for you, whatever you choose to do.

Thanks Alison. I guess that I'm particularly concerned because when they put the holes in my eye - which was meant to help the glaucoma - it actually made the glaucoma much worse so that I had to have urgent surgery. I don't want to wish my life away but I can't wait for tomorrow morning to be finished with so that I know what I am dealing with.

Ooh, what a horrible dilemma. Try asking the consultant what he would advise if you were his favourite auntie and take it from there. I hope it goes well, whichever way you go.

If this is the same treatment we had the talk about at our local DUK, the eye consultant said the needle used is hair fine and shouldn't leave any trace of it's visit behind. He also said it could significantly reduce the damage to a patient's eyes but didn't discuss what effect it might have on other eye problems. I think I did a report on the talk in here, I'll try and find the thread.

Nope, I must have been dreaming, I can't find it anywhere.

Thank you LeeLee. Thank you for looking Alison

Can't really offer any advice beyond the idea of talking it through tomorrow...I will definitely be thinking of you & rooting for you though! Xx

Sorry I can't help you with this, worth asking to before the injection to go through all the pros and cons again. What ever you decide all the best wishes to you.

Thanks Twitchy I feel bad saying to you with all you've been through with your eyes but I've been in floods of tears. It all feels too much. You are so much braver than me with your eyes xx

Thank you Pav

Aw hun, I am NOT brave, I'd be doing the same! There's no getting away from it, it's flipping scary! :( And if you've had one bad experience that can counter weigh in your head all the ok ones, illogical though it might be...I think you are the brave one, you have a wonderful positive attitude to all the poop diabetes has thrown at you & in fact, madam, you are a great encouragement & inspiration to me! 🙂 So there... 😉 You'll be ok, you know? Xxxxx

Thank you so much Twitchy xxxxx

Oh Amanda, I've no idea what to say as it is such a massive decision but I agree that you need to talk it through tomorrow and then go with what feels right for you. You have said a couple of times you are not brave - but you are so brave, dealing with everything you have to everyday, you really should give yourself more credit. Your advice to me has been invaluable, I think you are amazing.

I will be thinking of you tomorrow.

I hope you get the chance to talk it through with the consultant and make the choice that is best for you. Hope it goes well if you decide to go ahead 🙂

Good luck tomorrow .... Hope everything goes well for you . Will be thinking of you - let us know how you get on 🙂
