Madness in the USA

Interesting, ok, so limited government ... I took a look on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limited_government

"When limited government is put into practice, it often involves the protection of individual liberty from government intrusion"

"The U.S. Constitution achieved limited government through a separation of powers: "horizontal" separation of powers distributed power among branches of government (the legislature, the executive, and the judiciary, each of which provide a check on the powers of the other); "vertical" separation of powers (federalism) divided power between the federal government and the state government"

James Madison, one of the authors of the Federalist Papers ..... "Madison wrote in Federalist No. 51 that "the great security against a gradual concentration of the several powers in the same department, consists in giving to those who administer each department, the necessary constitutional means, and personal motives, to resist encroachments of the others." "

And to me, it would seem that Trump is targetting that 'separation of powers'

"DonorsTrust is an American nonprofit donor-advised fund that was founded in 1999 with the goal of "safeguarding the intent of libertarian and conservative donors" "

"Grants from DonorsTrust are based on the preferences of the original contributor, and the organization assures clients that their contributions will never be used to support politically liberal causes."

"In January 2021, CNBC reported that in 2019, DonorsTrust had given millions of dollars to conservative organizations that went on to push claims of election fraud in the 2020 election. citation:4-6 "

Whitney Ball, the former president of the Trust, ... "In 2014, Ball said that 70 to 75 percent of grants go to public policy organizations"

This organisation sounds like a lot more than a think tank

My two penneth - trump is a convicted criminal ! He's bought land in Scotland, now it seems he is buttering up Ireland. Possible trump thinks he can dictate to other countries and it would not surprise me if he was angling to make Scotland and Ireland part of USA thus dividing to conquer. Well us little Brits have always been little fighters but no doubt some will be bought by his corrupt dealings. We can only watch this space. My dear friend from the USA no longer with us, would be turning in her grave if she knew.
Trump is doing a deal with Russia and China to split the world into 3 parts

If Ukraine falls, so do we
That wouldn't surprise me. I have a very low opinion of them all.

I read today that he'd announced that nobody had even heard of Lesotho.

Well I daresay he's never heard of me either - but that doesn't mean I don't exist. Just demonstrates to me yet again how utterly c**p their education system is.

Someone posted this on Bluesky. I assume it's real....

I actually lived in the US for almost 20 years, working in high tech. I left in 2001 coz I saw how crazy it was getting. Citizens United was the worst thing that could have happened and the repercussions have been made so much worse because of how many corrupt (mainly Republican) politicians who have abandoned any notions of Democracy in favour of lining their pockets and holding on to power. I knew things would go downhill but I honestly didn’t think it would happen so quickly. I feel like I am watching the fall of the Roman Empire. The truly ironic thing is that fundamentally Trump is a narcissistic idiot and his own supporters will be among those most hurt by his actions. NBC (creators of The Apprentice) really do have a lot to answer for….

I just think the world has to do something about pervasive stupidity. Really can't afford to let it screw things up to this extent.

If the intent behind these tariffs is to force companies to move manufacturing back to the US, with an expectation that this would boost employment there, I am not sure if that will work quite as well as Trump’s supporters expect.

The US education system has slipped quite far down the rankings over the past years, particularly in STEM subjects, such that finding employees with the necessary skills to work in high-end manufacturing is going to be a nightmare.

Personally, it would not surprise me if any manufacturer forced to relocate to the US were to build highly automated factories, which would be much easier to staff and maintain.

I guess time will tell…

I wonder if there will be enough people wanting to do the "low end manufacturing" when the immigrants are deported.
I am not saying they are uneducated but they are often more willing to do the lower-paid manual jobs.

It’s amazing that he is surprised that China dare impose tariffs on USA.

.. and in fact they may be very highly educated but unable to get a job that utilises their skills. For example, I've met qualified doctors working as care workers in the UK.
