Just found out today while at the hospital getting my diabetes eyes checkup that i have a fluid build up at the back of my right eye and need to go to another hospital for a scan of the eye to get it checked out. If needed i may need injections into my eye. If my reserch is correct they numb the eye and the needle feels like a hair in the eye.

A neighbour said to me that he knew someone who had this procedure done and went tempary blind and after procedure got eyesight back but vision was better before procedure than after.
dont know if this is true or not so not going to get worked up. I wonder if anyone on the fourum had this procedure done and maybe please give me more info from the experiance point of view?

I have my d nurse next week so i will find out what my hba1c result is and take it from there.

thanks

I’ve not had experience of that particular procedure, but having had both eyes fitted with replacement lenses after removal of the cataract filled natural lenses, all done using anaesthetic eye drops, I don’t think you need worry about any discomfort.

You have to have the injections whether or not, to save your vision. The great majority of people who have the procedure note an improvement in their vision. Untreated macular oedema (English spelling) can cause all sorts of chaos in the eye, none welcome, so the sooner the better as far as treatment goes, so if they offer it, don’t decline it.

Thanks for your reply mikeyB i realy dont want to loose my sight since diagnosis of diabetes i have had 4 course of laser surgery and each time i walked away with a blinder of a sore head which i end up with painkillers and or lie down. as long as i have i have the info/prepared i dont want to turn down any help offered just fingers cross it will go well.

Hi Topcat sorry to hear of your eye problems and you're right not to get worked up. Your neighbours friend having an injection in the eye may not have had Macular Oedema. The injection might have been for a different eye complaint altogether. Memo: Please don't listen to neighbours hearsay!!:(
If you don't already have Moorfields web site, here it is. It's worth a read.

Good luck with your HbA1c result ~ hope you've managed to achieve a lower number ~ please let us know how you get on won't you.

Hi there, I've had this procedure done on many occasions!
Yes they put dilating drops into your eye, the nurse will then put some anaesthetic in, you will then have more anaesthetic applied right before the injection, they use what I would explain as cotton bud type things to apply it directly where they will be inserting the needle, they will then tape your eye open and insert a small spring between your top and bottom lid, your eye will be marked with a small dot of exactly where the injection will be done, they will then carry out the procedure, it takes just a few seconds to do and the whole build up takes much longer, you may feel slight pressure on your eye but its not actually sore, you may then experience bubbles floating in your eye, although rather distracting this is nothing to worry about, you are then just left to get on with your day to day business as if nothing has happened, it has worked wonders me! 🙂
If there is anything else you would like to know, please feel free to ask!! 🙂 xx

Interested to hear how you get on as I am due for review for this problem in a month or so - they decided after last test it didn't require injections yet... have slight retinopathy and cataracts as well so its all going on with the eyes:(

Just an update its offici ali have diabetic macular oedema (edema) not just in my right eye as was thought but alsoin my left i must admit i was kind of on err when was told about the rare side affects of the procedure for the needle in the eyes every 4 weeks for 5 months then review. but i have signed the papers to go ahead as i think they want to get started asap. As i have it in both eyes i think i have agreed to get both eyes done at the same appointment thus not haiving to go every 2 weeks as it is not being done at my normal hospital.
I hope its goes well as reading the booklet it stated that there was no data for getting both eyes done.

I have also made an apointment with nursey with regards to the latest which is on the 11th so i dont know what else to do but wait for the appointment to come i hope i can post this but thanks to the doctor and staff at wishaw they were very helpful, friendly and were happy with questions, and explaining to my son whats going to happen and both doctors said hello with a handshake wierd to say i came out of the hospital feelling brillant though i know the next few months may be hard. xx

You'll be very lucky if they do both eyes at the same appointment as they are reluctant to do that, I have problems with travel to the hospital I had mine done at but they still wouldn't do both at the same time, I hope all goes well and you see the benefits I have from them xx

Good luck @topcat123 and at least you got explanations (as did your son) and know what is ahead.
