Just in case people haven't seen this on Facebook I thought I'd share M&S latest statement here. Hope it helps some people.FB_IMG_1584625157159.jpg

The problem is for us oldies and vulnerables, because we're not immediately identifiable by anything and aren't allowed to be asked to identify that we are (whereas ALL Emergency Services and carers who work for care companies will at least have identification used at work they could take with them if not in uniform) because it isn't the first hour or two of some shops normal trading they've allocated to us - by the time we're allowed in there may be little or none left. Daughter went to (very large!) Tesco for us this very morning - she's 'only' in her mid-late 40s - not ANY fresh fruit or veg available, ditto sliced bread or beef mince. She grabbed what she could including fresh bread cos she knows we are happy with it on our list then went to M&S and got the rest no prob.

She had to visit Boots to get something only they have (simply not available at other pharmacies locally) but anyway, they are only admitting a max of 10 people at a time so she had to queue for 20 mins to go in. She loved it, in and out, got what she needed pdq once in there, cos she's not good in crowds herself.

I have read some reports of using a bus pass. I have also read that somewhere there were other shippers in and the staff said they could not enforced.
This morning there have been reports of large queues for stores to open.

Mr Marten and I both have freedom passes and senior railcards, so could use them as ID I suppose, although according to the news the 'pensioner priority' early slots at Sainsburys and elsewhere were being ignored by other people who barged OAPs out of the way.

This morning was horrendous - we normally do our weekly shop on Thursday morning and went a bit earlier today just in case it was busy... Busy! Somebody we passed along the road told us not to bother with Morrisons as everything had gone - we went straight to Waitrose as planned and it was heaving at 8.10am, full mostly with people who we could tell don't normally shop there, people wearing facemasks and plastic gloves, young people who were buying up stuff leaving older people wandering about in a daze...

Later we popped across to our corner (Turkish) shop and that too was full, but we got some veg and olive oil. When we left a member of staff was standing by the closed door waiting to let the queue outside in when we had all left. Madness everywhere.

M&S are doing it for the first hour of opening. Unfortunately it is down to the customers respecting the notice and allowing the group's specified to shop during those times.

Sainsbury's have donated a large amount of ready meals and cold meats to the hostel where my OH works and also the night shelters for the homeless today.

I think it’s awful that stores are having to take these steps.

Supermarkets in Italy are apparently completely fine. Full of produce, and people, are shopping normally.

I really hope people come to their senses soon... but sadly it doesn’t seem to be happening.
