Anyone who fancies some cheese on toast might like to try this. It is a recipe my MIL used. (2 slices).
Grate enough cheese into a bowl.
Add 1/4 teaspoon mustard, some black pepper and a few drops of vinegar, enough vinegar to make the cheese moist.
Mix well together and then spread on toast and place under hot grill.

We do it that way too Cherry, it's really good. I often sprinkle a good dose of paprika or cayenne on top for a bit of extra bite.

OMG, this sounds really good, and will be tested tonight, many thanks, so excited...........:D

I luvvvvvvv cheese on toast, but afraid when it comes to mustard, yuk, can't stand the stuff.

Is that adding or avoiding? 😉

I quite like food that bites back. 😎

Most definitely adding, even with the heat from the mustard, cant wait.....

Never thought to grate it first or use vinegar............

Do you think it would be acceptable to have 4 slices for dinner...?:D

Minus the mustard that sounds scrummy

Mustard doesn't taste quite the same with cheese as it does with eg beef or ham. And cooked it's different again.

Not tried vinegar though ..... but you have it when you add a pickled onion to your cheese and that's very OK - so why not?

had it, and it was good, and that was with a full spoon of mustard and cayenne pepper, woops.............

next time, probably tomorrow, I will knock down the mustard content......

those who have not tried it, try it..........🙂

My daughter makes a delicious cheese on toast but with
cheese - grate into a bowl
mustard - teaspoon
mayo - teaspoon
milk - keep adding (until as my daughter says) the mixture resembles a scrambled egg look mixture
spread mixture onto toast (one side toasted already) & place under the grill until bubbling and starting to brown.

Cherrypie, i'll get my daughter to try your mixture but i've just never heard of it done with vinegar.

Glad you liked it.🙂
Sadly, MIL dies several years ago at the age of 97.

97, what a great age! I'm sure she'd be proud that you've posted her recipe on here.
