My husband has bought me some vouchers for our local gym which has a beauty parlour 🙄

I'm really interested in the Lymphatic Drainage programme which it alleges:-

Lower stress/anxiety levels
Improve immune system
Reduction of cellulite
Raised energy levels
Reduction of puffiness and fluid retention

Has anyone else tried this and has its an electrical treatment would it be dangerous...?

Amanda xx🙂

Hi Amanda.

I'm not entirely sure but I think this may be woo-woo.

ie. not of any scientific value but may have some therapeutic value insofar as it may be provide a massaging effect to relax and stimulate your muscles, etc.

Unless there's a scientific explanation of what it does and how it does it, with reference to approved trials, I'd tend to steer clear of it.

Although I'm sure it has no harmful effects or they wouldn't be able to sell it.🙂

I've been googling it and to be honest I might give it a miss and try another treatment... I'd like something to help with my current bout of stress and anxiety - I'd normally aim for the food cupboard but I'm not going to risk it as I've done so well with my weight loss. I've re-started exercise regime and doing plenty of walking.. just need something to help me relax....

Hi Amanda
My son (T1) has lymphatic drainage regularly as a treatment for his lymphoedema, but it's not electrical. The specific treatment he has is called MLD (manual lymph drainage) and I understand people do find it helpful for other things, especially sinusitis? It is relaxing but how helpful it is outside particular conditions, I don't know.

Just go for a massage - the more of you that they'll give you for your voucher the better, but if you have to limit it, neck and shoulders - and/or feet.

Oh, bliss!

Or pay for some private (what other sort is there? 🙄) counselling. If you can find someone who specialises in anxiety and food cravings/eatign disorders they should be able to at least get to what's behind it all. I always feel that most treatments for anxiety are just treating the symptoms without the root cause. If you can face that (and afford it 😱) you may come out much stronger and self-aware.🙂

But if you just want to relax, then TW's suggestions sounds ideal. Tension in the neck and shoulders can build up and really drag you down.

As with any therapy that uses a electrical current or massage you should check with doc first, as these types of therapy can damage fine capillary veins..

How about taking up yoga that's good for relaxing and promoting calm!
