Lucky a nurse came glucose in urine

yesterday had a BG morning reading of over 18 then this morning same but feeling very off colour and various muscles stiff and sore.

a nurse came and took a urine sample showing poss infection along with something which i have never had, glucose in urine and it was fairly high reading.

now have an appointment but am very worried as this has never happened before.

experiencing really bad muscle aches and soreness of right wrist, do have Tramadol which is just keeping the edge off.

for now any feedback about glucose in urine, high levels.
 
Sorry I can't help you mikey, but I am sure someone else can advise.

Could the muscles stiffness and soreness be from any other new medication you have been prescribed recently?
Are you staying hydrated ok?

It is not unusual for there to be glucose in your urine if your BG is high. I seem to remember the kidneys start trying to get rid of it from the blood when you get above a BG of 10, so it is not anything to be overly concerned about in itself as your kidneys are just doing their job. Glucose in your urine will make you susceptible to urinary tract infections etc as it provides a great breeding medium for bacteria.
Ketones in your urine would be something to be concerned about.
Obviously you need to reduce your BG levels by whatever means you can ie diet, medication, exercise and drinking water so that your kidneys no longer need to remove the glucose.
 
forgot i should of mentioned am running a temperature so not sure what has gone wrong, the amount of glucose passing through is really high and with having a temp hence the appointment.

when you have an infection it will shove up your blood sugar readings anything from 8-10 will show high glucose in your urine.
This works out to being a normal person with diabetes. Us type 1's tend to need extra insulin to counteract the high numbers.
Basic mechanics == infection so your body pumps out cortisol (steroid) to help fight the infection. As you know steroids cause blood sugar rises so this is all normal, obviously as you are not producing enough of your own insulin you can't release it from your pancreas to help out. This in turn means higher numbers until the infection has cleared up.
 
I'd also ask what medication you may be on?

Some medications actually help reduce blood glucose levels by encouraging the kidneys to extract more glucose into the urine. This maybe worth considering.

But, naturally, high blood glucose levels will generally lead to glucose in the urine too.
 
I was diagnosed from a random urine test that showed glucose and my finger prick test was 20.1. Didn’t have any muscle ache but felt dreadful. Was just sent away from GP to have an HbA1c the following day and then got my T2 diagnosis. Worrying but dont think there is anything to be worried about, unless anybody knows better of course - just my experience.
 
Drink as much plain water as you can - yes you'll need to wee more but you have to try and flush the excess glucose out, any way you can.
 
have had these symptoms on and off since News Years didn't put it down to that it could be diabetes related at the same time i do have a catheter in so could be from that but at this stage until a check up won't know for sure.

think my diabetes medication may need looking at i have been on 1 tablet of sitagliptin since last year.

what puzzles me is that my Hba1c on day last week was 8.8 but showing an increase from 59 to 73.

any way until check up this morning everything is still guess work.

good news is that i do feel a little better this morning although my BG is still high 16.4 but is coming down from nearly 19 a few days ago. do have a niggle on left kidney flank, feels like something is nipping inside.

i will make sure to drink plenty to flush out
 
went to the doctors this morning and am now been treated for suspected infection and am speaking with the diabetic nurse Monday, another urine sample still very high levels of glucose.

when we talk about glucose in urine there are small traces but not enough to flag up if it is high enough then it indicates a problem some where. normal is 0 to 0.8

Mike, take a deep breath and calm down please.
As already explained to you by other forum members ……………. high blood sugars will cause the glucose to spill into your urine. Thus as you have an infection which causes high blood sugars and you have high blood sugars then the overspill is being peed out by your kidneys. Thus you have glucose in your urine.

Once you get your bloods below 7 or 8 then the glucose will disappear from your urine.
Help yourself as much as you can by drinking as much water as you can and also look at the type and amount of carbs you are eating.
 
it is a different ball game here Sue as i have a catheter with stoma one put me in hospital with a dangerous temp of 41c for a full week so i have to be on alert. urine showing both l+n plus glucose.

Mike it really doesn't matter what you have infection wise the end result is high bloods which equals glucose in your urine. This is normal for someone with diabetes so you are no different than anyone else on the forum.
The rate you are going you will have warts as well (worry warts) 🙄

Sorry to hear about your infection @mikeydt1

It sounds nasty for you and you are rightly concerned given what had happened before. It's good that you have been in contact with your nurse and surgery.

As others have said, glucose in your urine is just a result of high blood glucose, and the high blood glucose is a result of your infection.

Keep yourself well hydrated (this will help your kidneys to flush out the extra glucose in urine.

Hopefully your infection will clear up speedily and your BG will return to normal. Are you adjusting your meal choices to try to keep your BG low (since it will be being raised by the infection at the moment)
