Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi all I have recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes , I've also been told I am anaemic and my platelets are also low is this usual with diabetes?

No - separate things usually. What symptoms led you to have blood tests?.

Anaemia can be tricky alongside diabetes, because one of the regular measures (HbA1c) revolves around red blood cells. Which can lead to unpredictable results. So sometimes an alternative check called Fructosamine is used instead.

I have a low platelet count as well but at the moment I am ignoring it and hope it goes away my GP is doing the same
but now you have me worried as at the same blood test my HbA1c was 39 hopefully this was ok if just a bit low

@trophywench -Thank you I think I have nothing to worry about as my A1c is much the same as last year. I may ask the Doctor about it at my next appointment.

Cos your platelets were not low 12 months ago?
