sorry no ..but that sounds very extreme ...im bumping this for the more experienced to come on ...take care x

never had that before. I would suspect the vomit, and the blood in it, weren't anything to do with your hypo. Do you suffer with any other illnesses?

I hope you are feeling better. If there is blood in your vomit I'd suggest you see a doctor to rule anything more serious out. I would not think the hypo and the vomiting are connected, but someone else may have different ideas.

When you say a high hypo, do you mean a hyper (eg. up in the 20s+) ?

If you get that happen even once, I would suggest that you urgently contact your GP or clinic and discuss it with them.

I've had blood in my mouth after severe hypos (many years ago) when I bi my tongue while convulsing. It was obviously discussed with medical team and they said it was rare but not unheard of.

But blood in your vomit at any time has to be worrying. From a hyper doubly so.

And fainting from hypos would suggest a loss of symptoms or something related to blood pressure.

Hi pcx boi

Welcome to the forum 🙂

I haven't myself but there are some members here who have lost consciousness or fitted due to very low BG levels. This only seems to happen at very very low levels where the brain no longer has enough energy to carry on functioning properly. Is that something that has happened to you? Sounds properly scary 😱

If by a 'high hypo' you mean when your blood sugar levels are very high, and have been for some time then vomiting can be an indication that the body is really struggling and might be going into DKA (diabetic ketoacidosis) where the blood is becoming too acidic as poisonous 'ketones' build up. This is very dangerous and really needs to be treated urgently. A&E time really.

Not sure if these sorts of events are happening to you, but if they are it sounds like you need to book an appointment with your DSN/clinic and get some support.

I spotted on your intro thread that you are on NovoRapid and Levemir...

Do you count carbs and match your doses to the insulin you are taking?

Have you ever been on a course to help you control your D (like DAFNE, BERTIE or similar)?

The more you can tell us about how you manage your D, the more we can learn from each other and there might be some folks here who have faced (or are facing) the same challenges who can shine some light on things. 🙂

As a child, I had a few hypos were I collapsed and fitted, biting my tongue in the process. When I came round I used to vomit, and there would be blood there as my tongue was still bleeding from where I'd bit it.

Hi there pcx boi I have passed out on 3 occasions in the past year or so and vomited, and blamed the diabetes and tablets I'm taking and even a BBQ the day before, but not well enough at the time to find out if BS is high or low. I haven't had any blood, but if you had, then please see your doctor, just incase you have an underlining condition you don't know about. Take care Sheena

If anyone gives you Glucagon when you are hypo, then vomitting is pretty well guaranteed once you start coming round a bit. I've had terrible nausea from hyPERS - ie virtually but not quite DKA - but never actually thrown up.

It is poss to bust a blood vessel heaving though, but needs sorting if you do that.

Sorry you are poorly. Hope you have been checked out.
I have ketones we're I have been on the floor and vomiting but never had blood.
Have you checked for ketones?

Vomiting up blood could indicate a bleeding stomach ulcer. I would go to see your GP as soon as possible.
