March 18 Hba1c 62, DN not happy - threatened to increase meds. So looked at low carbs and tried to follow this approach for 3 months and it worked!! Hba1c now 33 and DN amazed, so much so she reduced my meds (no more Gliclizide and reduced metformin).

Now the hard work starts trying to keep BG low without the aid of Gliclizide, BG's have been higher (6-7) in the mornings so I guess my Panceas is adjusting to the new regime.

I don't count carbs just look at the labels and keep portion sizes small, seems to work.

Type 2 Diabetic since 2005.

Congratulations, Reggie. I am trying low carb, too, to fairly good effect. There are a lot of "amazed" medics around. My GP was "staggered" at the results of low carb after 5 weeks from diagnosis. Hard bit is keeping it going but too important not to...

Thank you for your support & I agree with your thoughts, I know it not easy but a healthy life with diabetes in remission has to be the goal. As a treat tonight I'm having some Salted Caramel ice cream by Ommi - hard to believe it's so low carb.

Well done Reggie, you will find that it gets easier over time as your mindset adjusts to the idea of not eating those high carb foods that have formed part of our diet for decades..... I like to think of it as a Way or Eating (WoE) rather than a specific diet.
The upside is that (at least for me) we tend to eat more of the nutritious "green" veggies & so our diet is improving on 2 fronts, low carb & better nutrition

I'm wondering how people decided on how many carbs they should eat a day? I have veered from too little to too many. Just had a bad couple of days trying new food variations and my readings were all over the place. Is there a recommended level or is it all down to self testing?

I don't really worry about the carbs, some days it's be perhaps 5 others, maybe 50.... Depends on what I feel like making....

As your BG's come under control then you should start stabilizing out & not have those fluctuations, these days I tend to be in the 4.5-5.5 range (but I will have odd days when it's lower/higher, just part of life. For your personal goals look for a BG level that's attainable & work toward consistently reaching it; then raise the bar......

Last A1C was 38 after 5 weeks restricting carbs, so I eased the restriction a little and had readings this week as high as 10.2. I was aiming for about 75g a day but that doesn't seem achievable with raising bg significantly. Was working with 45g initially but would have liked to have eased up a little ...
