Low Carb T1

Thank you for the tips! Definitely up for trying these and I'll look into Joe Wicks too, I didn't realise he had low carb recipes, thanks!
Yes for me low carb rather than no carbs. I agree, for me personally it makes my control so much easier.
No worries! The early Joe Wicks books (Lean in 15) were based around the concept of eating low carb meals on rest days with lots of protein and fats and eating more carbs on workout days. It's kind of aimed at people wanting to lose weight or gain muscle (which I know isn't what you're looking for) but as long as you make sure your portion sizes are big enough, you can easily use the recipes for a low carb diet without the workout parts.

I am low carb and Type 1. It really suits my body and has improved a number of other health conditions and helps enormously to manage my comfort/binge eating.... the less carbs I have, the less I crave them and I find it makes my diabetes reasonably easy to manage but I do have to inject for protein release about 2 hours after a meal as well as insulin up front for the carbs and I need to inject for tomatoes and onions and kidney beans etc ( they count as carbs for me, not just "DAFNE" carb counting). Usually it is a couple of units of insulin prebolused (I don't weigh or measure anything) but I have a good idea if something will need one or 2 units or maybe 2.5 and then I don't calculate protein, I just watch my Libre and inject a couple of units when my high alarm goes off at 8.2 and that deals with the protein. I am not rigidly low carb in that I will occasionally share a single portion of fish and chips with my partner and have about 10 chips I have got to the stage that I am often disappointed when I do have higher carb foods. A rare treat meal for me is a rib-eye steak with mushrooms, salad, dressed with balsamic and coleslaw or chilli and a big salad (with balsamic) and coleslaw. I really enjoy salad dressed with balsamic vinegar. I also love ratatouille done in the oven with mozzarella or halloumi. I like a cottage pie topped with mashed cauli (no peeling, cooks quicker than spuds and easier to mash) with a good dollop of cream cheese to make it creamy and a thick layer of grated cheese and browned off.

Today I had 4 strawberries chopped up with mixed seeds and creamy Greek style natural yoghurt for breakfast with a cup of coffee with real cream, Lunch was half an apple sliced with mature cheddar. Then tonight I had broccoli (microwaved for 3 mins and chopped up), mushrooms and onions fried with smoked bacon and broken up into pieces and all mixed together with a couple of dessert spoons of sour cream and chive dip from the chilled counter (not the highly processed Doritos type stuff in a jar) to make a creamy sauce to bind it together. It took about 20 mins to throw together and was very tasty and filling. The half an onion wasn't worth injecting for but will correct at bedtime if necessary although I have a feeling I might end up needing a little bedtime treat instead. A square of 70% dark chocolate with a spoon of peanut butter. :D Don't think I will be needing any evening Levemir tonight either which is always a bonus from having an active day.
Anyway, I hope that gives you a little inspiration.
