OK, I'll be the dumb bloke who asks the question. What's a slice?

Is a slice some kind of cake that you slice up?

That's pretty comprehensive Eddy. We'd probably call it a tray bake. @Jacinta (Australian) question is one for the low carb bakers methinks.

I was thinking of doing this but I can’t find the swerve sweetener where I am , is there a way to replace that sweetener by any chance ? Please and thankyou

Surprised things aren't referred to as slices in England, here in Scotland things are referred to as both so like a millionaire's shortbread will be referred to as caramel slice or caramel squares etc, likewise with the same with a peppermint slice, malteser slice and so on often with traybake added on to the end

I know @NotWorriedAtAll and @Martin62 are keen low carb bakers so maybe one of them would be able to assist xx

Tray bake. What the hell is a jelly slice? You can't cook jelly - it would merely melt all over the oven!

Jelly is American for jam. Never heard of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
Although in this particular thread I think it really does refer to actual jelly, pretty much similar base to caramel slice (Or millionaires Shortbread depending where your from lol) then a layer of condensed milk and topped with a layer of jelly

My mother used to make a sponge like a swiss roll, but cut it into squares instead of rolled up with jam and icing. She would then dip them into jelly before it set and then coat them in coconut and then leave them in the fridge to set. Those were what I would see as jelly slices.

Most Slices (Or tray bakes) don't require an oven

Jelly slice is -
You do your biscuit base , with crushed biscuits and add butter in a food processer , put it in a tray firmly then add your condense milk mixed with gelatine pour that over your base place in the fridge so it firms up. Now you make up your actual jelly from the packet like you would if you were going to set it in the fridge but you need to let it cool down so when you pour it on top of the biscuit base and condense milk / gelatine it doesn’t cook it , it just sets perfectly 🙂 . This is what a jelly slice looks like 🙂 and yes it’s actually jelly

That sounds so good .

Condensed milk - how utterly revolting. Only ever tasted the sweet sort though, unbearably sweet when I was a child so long before D. Only thing my mom used it for was to make coconut pyramids.

How can it be said that tray bakes don't use an oven!! So if it isn't baked in an oven, it is not a tray bake.

English have referred to millionaire's shortbread as a tray bake, it requires no baking, many of the "tray bakes" that can be bought in slices in shops, bakeries etc require no baking, I can only assume that some refer to it as a tray bake due to it being a bakery product and generally made in a tray

Those sort of jelly slices would be relatively easy to make low carb. Just a basic sponge mixture but with ground almonds and baking power instead of flour and perhaps some psyllium husk and a granular sweetener and of course eggs and butter. You could make it in muffin tins and then cut in half and dunkeach half in unset sugar free (raspberry cos that goes well with coconut) jelly and desiccated coconut and leave to cool and set in the fridge. You could even possibly make the sponge in the microwave to save on electric. You can also decorate the top of each one with whipped fresh cream and a raspberry once they have set. You usually need to make quite a strong jelly mix so that it sets well, so slightly less water that the packet suggests. It is kind of a variation of a trifle dessert that you can eat with your fingers instead of a spoon.
