I am fairly certain that this has already been discussed in the forum but I did not see it when I did a search. Recently diagnosed with T2 and recently weighed in at just over 22 stone. I have come to the conclusion that I need to get serious about having a real life style change to hopefully reduce the risk of a massive heart attack.
I have off and on used myfitnesspal and debating if it is suitable for my challenge ahead. My Nutritionist suggested buying the android app carbs & cals but looking at the reviews it looks like the developer has given up on it.
While searching apps I noticed one called . low carb program which I think needs a doctor referral to use it.
I am just registering for my diabetes my for my test results as well after my Nutritionist mentioned it.
I would appreciate any feedback on this.
TIA

You could try Atkins - the last version of New Diet Revolution used to go for pennies, just pay postage.

Hi Kestrel521 I have started the low carb diet 130 or less a day. I have found carbs and cals recipes and meal plans and carb and calorie counter books really good. I record all the carbs and I weight everything. It is hard but I have already lost half a stone in 2 weeks!!!! If you have any questions just ask...I no it is hard but I am sure you can do it....Good luck

Hi. I've had db for 15 years or so but recently another DN suggested the Carbs and Cals App. I downloaded it to my Android phone and it's a good App particularly if you are new. You don't need to be referred to do low-carb; just do it. It's not dangerous if not on insulin. Just set yourself a daily limit (e.g. 150gm/day) and start looking at food packaging and the App.

Kestrel - Whilst the Low Carb Programme can be prescribed by a GP (if your area has signed up for it), you can go directly.

Thanks for the info, at the moment I want to concentrate on losing some of my excess weight. Just cutting out all of the biscuits, crisps, chocolate etc which I don't miss at all I have lost about 2 lbs a week since beginning of October which is okay as my weight loss will be a marathon and not a sprint. Having said that I do want to improve my intake of food as I know its not just eating the right amount of calories.

Thanks for the heads up about the carbs and cals app. I will take another look and probably download it. I was a bit put off because of comments about its age and lack of updates and mobiles like to run on the latest software

Cook and Count Carbs was abandoned, but as far as i know Carbs and Cals is still going strong? Available as a book too.

£15 per month sounds quite expensive for the low carb programme app when you could use the Test, Review, Adjust approach (which is free apart from test strips) and using the encouragement of forum members and the recipe section here for inspiration?
