I've cut down on the spuds, white bread sweets and cakes but still enjoy and can cope with wholemeal bread (burgen soy and linseed) whole bran cereals and pasta. I eat loads more salad and veg than I used to and generally try to avoid stuff that i too sugary. It seems to do the trick for me and my insulin requirements have really dropped since diagnosis. I can't think of any good reason to restrict myself further. I have no need to lose weight, in fact I sometimes struggle to keep the weight on. Does this seem like a sensible plan?

If your BGs are stable and within range, and you're not going hungry, it sounds fine to me. We're all different and have to find a regime we're happy with as individuals. 🙂

Sounds pretty much like me, and since I am fortunate to enjoy good levels on the amounts of carbs I consume then I see no reason to further restrict things. I might be able to cut a couple more units of insulin if I really tried, but for me it's not worth the extra effort so I'm happy as I am (around 100-150g carbs a day) 🙂

I try always to go low carb if I can. & keep well away from sweet stuff. When I was diagnosed lots of people had passed on just through eating. The gear you can buy now has 6 bags of sugar per helping 😱:D

I think it is important to find a balance that you can stick to. I know that if I were to restrict myself too much I would burn out quite quickly. The forever bit makes me consider where I am happiest, ie what is the best compromise for me. I stick to around 80 - 100 grams on a normal day, but vary whT I eat, so sometimes (like tonight where I had a small piece of cheesecake and cream) my 100 grams might include a great. I therefore lower other carbs (had omelette and salad for dinner).

I personally don't see the need to go any lower carb if you've got good control and are happy 🙂. I know there's a lot of folk who feel low carb is the only way to go but for me, I use control as my barometer. At this point I cope well with 100-150g a day and that's a fairly natural amount for me so that's what I work with. I'm insulin sensitive currently and I'd like to avoid insulin resistance as much as possible, so I aim for the lowest amount of insulin, for a comfortable amount of carb. If that changes my view on carbs might change too I guess.

I'm like Stephknits, I like a treat sometimes, like the baileys and chocolate ice cream in a restaurant last night, but if I'm doing that I go practically zero carb for my starter/main because my preference is for small amounts of insulin to maintain stability more than anything, I dislike swings in either direction. Personal preference though, I could eat more, or less but it's important to me to be happy with what I eat. I have what is sometimes referred to as an intense approach to life (that's a nice way of saying I have a tendency towards extreme focus) so I have to try not to control things too tightly, and that approach works for me 🙂

Good work on getting to a point you're happy with, that's a big milestone :D

I seem to have settled on approx 100 - 150 g of carb per day and generally feeling well on it 🙂
