Hi
I've been doing a low carb diet, under 120g a day for the last couple of months. Have lost 18lbs and my blood sugar had dropped, so all good.
I see a Wellbeing coach at my GP, who put me on this path, and I'm very happy.
However yesterday I had a message that I shouldn't be low carb on ertugliflozin, and should raise to 140g. In truth I'm often at 80g at the end of the day.
I'm loath to change it, but is it dangerous?
Many thanks

There is an increased risk of something called Euglygaemic Diabetic Ketoacidosis (euDKA) if you are taking a 'flozin' and on a Keto diet. I think to be on the safe side, HCPs are recommending that you don’t go below 130carbs a day, which is generally reckoned to be 'low carb' , You may want to discuss this with your GP and weigh up the risks of only just being below the threshold of low carb, and nowhere near Keto levels.

As said above there is a risk of euDKA. Rather than increase carbs you could discuss other medication options (if they are still required with the changes you’ve made) if you want to remain low carb.

The advise for the flozins is to make sure you drink enough fluids, I have seen 2-3litres per day is suggested. It can increase the risk of thrush and UTIs.
To me there is no logic in having medication to lower blood glucose but then having more carbs than you need but if you are monitoring your blood glucose and have urine ketone test strips and have read the info leaflet in your medication you can make an informed decision.
Well done on the weight loss and lower blood glucose.

Thank you
I have an my HB1Ac next week.
I'd rather come off the ertugliflozin to continue the low carb if it's at a better level.

I have just looked at a couple of references which don't recommend a keto or very low carb < 50g carbs per day regime and suggest consultation with a dietician if considering low carb of > 130g per day who can advise on the type of carbs.
