Hey all,
I'm in the process of trying to lose baby weight (need to lose over 2 stone to be perfect weight 😱), I'm limited to exercise for the next month due to surgeries and stitches but I want to reduce my carb intake to help me lose some weight and be healthier. It's interesting that I've never really considered this would help me control my levels too but I'm sure it will....

anyway...

What do people recommend as a good bench mark of how many carbs to eat per day? An example of a typical day for me at the min is:

Breakfast - Natural low fat yoghurt with Blueberries and Strawberries or Grapes
Lunch - Salad (leaves, raddish, cucumber, tomatoes, beetroot etc) with either rivita and something like mushroom pate or quiche
Dinner - Something substantial (this is the toughest as my husband isn't great with veg) - maybe pasta and meaty stir-fry or fish with noodles, occasionally pizza etc.
I reckon at the min I consume about 110-150g carbs per day.

I'm already now cutting out the 'c**p' of puddings/chocolate etc. - this was my pregnancy craving! (nightmare!!)
Thanks 🙂

Well if it's any help I am 5'4", weigh 9st, size 12 - and my whole adult life I've averaged around 100g a day. When I was diagnosed of course the insulin and carbs had to match and my diet then contained the same - well it was 110g carb actually. Hospital had NP whatever with that - it was considered perfectly normal.

I had a sedentary job all my life, but I'd clean, garden and walk about 2 miles each way to the town to shop every Saturday, of course with half a ton of supermarket fare on the way back.

When I was approx. 35 I took up Fun running - only 5k runs, but used to train about twice a week. Did approx. 9 minute miles, so it was a 220/5 min run. Did that till I was about 45. Ate nowt different at all.

All the rot about people needing 250g a day only came out comparatively recently. Imagine what size I'd be if I ate over 200g carb a day? Ridiculous.

NB I have never attempted to low carb - this is what I eat!

But there again - mine are better spread out during the day, brekkie is 20g ish, lunch is 30g-ish and dinner is the most, except when it's a meat and veg dinner, which would have 4 pieces of spud = 40g. Pasta I will eat 60g=ish and rice about the same.

I have plenty of what's with the rice or pasta, and each forkful has a small amount of the carb, and a nice lot of the protein/fat/veg that is with it.

I just wouldn't eat more - it makes me feel stuffed.

Try adding lentils and beans.
I wouldn't do the pizza myself, I reckon not enough nutrition to deserve its load of calories.
I certainly do the Ryvita, and own brands, but my weakness is knowing when to stop with them.
One of my tricks with the salad is to add texture and taste, such as a few walnuts or almonds, and spicy leaves like rocket and watercress, mint or basil, and I often add some sliced ginger. Just makes me feel I have eaten substantially.

Fish more Fish & maybe some Fish. without batter & chips. Good for your brains apparently 😱. I keep off pizza to. Still hungry after having. Love stir fries with a pan of veggies. Good luck

I eat about 100g of carb a day, it isn't a goal or anything I just naturally have about that much, I don't eat much of the starchy carbs though, pasta and rice don't really light my candle so I have pasta occasionally but rarely if ever eat rice. I eat wholemeal bread, and the occasional potato but I find the hard work if I'm honest. I'm big on pulses, lentils and grains though and veggies. Can't stand most fruit so I don't eat it, and I eat dark chocolate so obviously that has a carb value. My dietician is disgusted by my lack of starch though, and was practically speechless at the prospect of my relatively frequent carb free meals (they're not actually carb free just not carbs I need to bolus for). You'd have thought I'd said I eat live kittens 😱
