Hi Can Anyone Shed Any Light On This For Me? My Novorapid Has Been Dropped To Just 2units For Breakfast And Lunch And 6 For Tea And I Take 18 Levemir At Night Because Diabetic Nurse Changed It From 6,6, And 8 Because I Was Having A Lot Of Hypo's. I Find That I Am Still Having At Least 1 Hypo A Day. Do You Think It Is What They Call The Honeymoon Period? I Still Cant Help Wondering If Its All Been A Big Mistake I Prefered It When Levels Were High! My Hba1c Was Ten A Couple Of Weeks Ago. Thanks Karen.

Hi Karen,

It certainly sounds as though your pancreas is having a bit of a 'last gasp' and still producing insulin. For the first few weeks after my diagnosis the nurses were changing my insulin doses, but things settled down after a while. Is there a pattern to the hypos you are still experiencing? I used to have them often in the morning, about an hour before lunch, so I got into the habit of having a small snack like a cuppa and a digestive mid-morning and this kept my sugars up enough until lunch.

I guess until things stabilise it's very tricky to determine your exact requirements, unfortunately.

Best talk with your diabetes nurse, with all the numbers to hand. Perhaps also worth recording which sites you use for each injection.

When you say you're having at least 1 hypo a day, do you mean that you are recording less than 4, or that you feel hypo? If your body has got used to high blood sugars, then you may feel low when, say, you drop below 5 or 6. But, generally, it takes a while to get doses right, even without theadded complication of honeymoon period. Then, gradually, you'll work out how to adjust how much and when to have insulin and food, depending on activity, weather etc.

It's tricky initially, but it does get a bit easier - honestly!

Yes My Recordings Are Less Than 4 And Mainly In Morning Or Mid Afternoon. Thanks . Karen
