just noticed that there appears to be some loss of sensation in the upper part of my back, left side. There's no pain, but when I scratch it, I cannot feel my body as I do on the right side. Been checking up online and the things that have registered is the possibility of oxygen deprivation due to emotional stress and cancer.

Does anyone have any knowledge on this area? Could it be related to diabetes type 2? Thought that peripheral neuropathy only affected the feet and legs, so is it likely to be related to that? This is very scary as I have had quite a few physical things materialise lately and am worried that my body can no longer cope with the chronic stress in my life and is shutting down. Deeply worried and have made an appointment to see my GP...

Just been reading an article online about neuropathy and how this can affect every part of your body. That it can affect the back and sweat glands too, making body temperature control difficult which I have too. So it is looking like there is definitely been some nerve damage, but not sure exactly how serious this is.

Just saw a doctor last week about weakness in my legs. He checked my reflexes and walking ability and said they were fine, but i am finding it definitely more difficult to walk a steady pace, heavy footedness, but there's no numbness in my legs, feet. Perhaps some muscle wasting that strength exercises might help?

So from what I have read and experienced, there does appear to be some damage, which I will be seeing the doctor about, but to prevent any further damage, then BG levels good control, diet and exercise are the three important factors that members indicate are the ones to focus on.

I have started that book that Bubbsie suggested regarding diabetes type 2 so will seek out advice from there too..thanks for that..

Hi Lydia

It would be best to speak to your Dr about this. When I have mentioned nerve damage to my Dr before the feeling I got was that it would generally affect both sides at the same time. (eg if one were to lose sensation as a result of diabetes it would generally affect both feet/legs at the same time).

Not sure of others have more practical experience they can offer.
