Are you a whiz at understanding data?  Do you feel confident representing the views of people living with and affected by diabetes?

We’re recruiting for patient representative roles to join the National Diabetes Audit (NDA).  This is a rewarding way to really shape diabetes care in England and Wales.  One of the world’s largest annual clinical audits, the NDA regularly collects information from GP practices and hospitals to measure how well they are performing. This information is then used to improve care.

We are looking for around 2 to 3 people for each audit.  You’ll need to be willing to commit for at least one year.  You’ll need to be confident with data and with sharing your views based on your experience of diabetes care.  There are meetings online using Microsoft Teams around four times per year.  There are also two face-to-face meetings every year, but with the current circumstances, they may need to move online, too. The audits currently recruiting are:

Diabetes Prevention Programme/non-diabetic hyperglycaemia audit (DPP/NDH) advisory group

National Diabetes Transition Audit (NDTA) advisory group

Young type 2 diabetes sub-group

National Pregnancy in Diabetes (NPID) audit advisory group

National Diabetes Inpatient Audit (NaDIA) advisory group

National Diabetes Audit Partnership Board

Gestational diabetes expert reference group

Prisons and secure hospitals expert reference group

You can find out more about what is expected and who should apply by clicking on the links above. Every role is different, and we know they won’t all be right for you.  But if one looks interesting, we would really like to hear from you.  And if you know someone who fits the bill, please do share this email with them.

The closing date for applications is 12 noon on Friday, August 28th.  The applications may close early if enough people apply, so please don’t delay.

If you have any questions, please contact NDA@diabetes.org.uk and we will do our best to help.

Hi @Josh DUK wondering which ones of the above are still in need of applications?

Hi @Josh DUK wondering which ones of the above are still in need of applications?

Hello @ColinUK ,

I have contacted the host of the event, but they are on leave at the moment. It may be helpful to send an email anyway and they may be able to send you a list of what spots are still open.

Hi @Josh DUK wondering which ones of the above are still in need of applications?

Hello @ColinUK ,

I have received a reply back:

"We have 23 applications so far and yes, most interest is for the Partnership Board, so it would be good to get some more interest for other groups too."

Did you decide to apply in the end @ColinUK?

The only one I can actually offer anything to is the one which already has a huge pile of applications.

Fired off an email for volunteering and received one of the most poorly written emails I’ve seen in a long time as an automated reply. Multiple fonts in one email, typos, inconsistent spacing, punctuation errors a plenty. Dread to think how many others have seen something as poor and stepped away from being involved with DUK because of the impression it gives.

Having my background in telephone fundraising (on the phones and also as an account manager designing campaigns and reporting back on them to the likes of Macmillan) then going client side and running DM IG campaigns for Cancer Research UK before circumstances and COVID necessitating going back to being on the phones at an agency I’d have expected to have had my offer explored a little better than to be told “here’s your local group” but they’re not doing anything now.

But if DUK don’t want my help with developing and optimising IG or DM campaigns I’ll keep offering volunteering services to others I care about and hopefully one will not respond quite so disappointingly.

I’d also ticked the boxes for volunteer forum host but that wasn’t even acknowledged.

I am really sorry you’ve had that experience Colin - must have been disappointing for you :(

I will chase up what happened with your ‘Host’ application, and make sure your feedback about the National Diabetes Audit opportunity is passed on.

I don’t want to make a fuss about the quality of the response but honestly it’s below what I’d expect from any public facing organisation.

Sorry to hear that you have had such a poor response from DUK.
I am glad to hear that Mike is following it up.

Hi ColinUK, there is something there that needs changing and Mike should be able to sort it.

A complete contrast with my application to be a moderator. It was well organised by DUK, communication was clear, things happened as promised and it all happened quite quickly.
