Update: They are 90% sure it's type 1 and started on insulin today. I have a blood test tomorrow and will get the results in 6 weeks to confirm type 1. Thanks for all your advice 🙂
What a scary time for you @Beth123

Glad you are being treated as T1 while your results are processed (6 weeks is an outrageously long time!!).

Hopefully you will see a significant improvement in your symptoms not that you have started on insulin.

Which insulins have you been given? I am hoping you have been put straight onto basal:bolus, with a separate long-acting and mealtime insulin?

I'm glad to hear that they got up to speed so quickly - I was concerned that you might be left until after the weekend to get any attention.

I'm glad to hear you're getting the only treatment that can and will help you - but they do start you off on lower doses to start with, which will need increasing gradually as you go on. It's as dangerous to reduce them abruptly as it is to totally ignore it - can cause eye damage as certain members here know to their cost (but there were extenuating circumstances in one of them so we can't criticise there) You don't have the same problems - so your journey should be a bit easier than theirs anyway.

Onwards and downwards @Beth123 ! We're all with you, don't be afraid to ask why something happens or doesn't happen, NEVER stop asking questions !!!

Thanks everyone for all your comments! I probably wouldn't have known I had been misdiagnosed if it wasn't for all of you educating me! Feeling very overwhelmed by all the information that was given to be yesterday! Had a bit of a breakdown last night when I had to inject for the first time! (scary stuff) they have started me on low doses of lantus and novo rapid and I'm still on metformin once a day with breakfast. They're planning on slowly increasing the dosage of insulin!

If you feel confused or anxious at any stage, come on here and ask advice or for reassurance. We can talk you through most stuff or just sympathise. It is a massive thing to get your head around at very short notice and you would not be human if you didn't feel overwhelmed by it, but you will get used to it and it will gradually become a normal routine for you and you will start to feel better as your levels come down slowly. If you think you made a mistake and don't know what to do about it, just ask and don't be frightened to test frequently because that is how you learn. Keeping a record of your readings and insulin doses with a food diary will help you to see what works and what needs tweaking. There are phone apps to make this easier. My Sugr is one such app so that might be worth trying if you haven't already.

Just really relieved that you have got fixed up with a basal/bolus insulin regime now rather than waiting any longer. Make sure to keep some jelly babies or dextrose tablets in your pockets/handbag/bedside table etc at all times and test if you start feeling unwell.
