Type 2
Hi my name is Jacqui and new to the group I am type 2 and my bm is currently sitting at 25.3 I'm usually high but never this high should I contact a gp thanks

Hi and welcome. What have you eaten recently? Are you testing your BG before you eat and 2 hours after the first bite? Personally I would ring NHS 111 for advice, but start to get some water inside you to try and flush out some of the sugar - plain water only
Please also read this HERE
Let us know how you get on please

@everydayupsanddowns any further advice?

Nothing sugary I will check again in couple of hours and if its still high I will contact 111 thanks
It isn't sugary things you need to watch only, it is all high carb foodstuffs - bread, potatoes, pastry, pies, fruit other than berries, veggies that grow under the ground, chocolate, sweets, peas, sweetcorn, crisps, rice, pasta, breakfast cereals etc - they are all high carb and carbs turn to glucose/sugar and could increase your BG. We all have to check these things and their effect, then either reduce portion if they cause a spike, or find an alternative. Do check out The Learning Zone (link at top of page) for more advice on what to check or avoid - you need to reduce carbs (slowly) in order to get your BG down to a a much lower level. I am guessing you have not received much info or advice, but you will find it here from those who know 🙂

Hi @Jacqueline Healy. The question is whether the 25.3 was or was not a rogue reading. The simple thing to do if you get such a reading is to wash your hands and do a re-rest on a different finger.. If your re-test gives the lower reading you might have expected, then ignore the high reading. It will be a rogue and you will never know why it happened. If the re-test gives you another reading close to your first test, then you need to think again.

If your blood glucose is routinely 20+ mmol/l when measured on a meter, then it is important that something is done to get it down because the risk of long term harm being done is far higher than is comfortable. I would certainly be consulting my GP if that were the case for me.

You say your blood glucose levels are usually high. What sort of levels do you normally get?

Let us know how things go @Jacqueline Healy, and what NHS 111 suggests.

Have you been diagnosed with diabetes for a while? Do you take any medications to help with your diabetes management?

Good to know that you have a BG meter to be able to keep an eye on things. Hopefully sharing experiences with members of the forum will give you some ideas and suggestions to consider for how to gently reduce your elevated BG levels.

Thankyou everyone going tomorrow to get my bloods done and it's came down slightly. Yeah I'm on 3 different medication for it and getting referred to diabetic clinic
