I was diagnosed 5 Feb got an appt on 26 Feb to get medication

I've been sticking to brown rice wholemeal bread good carbs limited sugar and I've been really unwell for two days. I have a terrible headache. Can't shift it. Blurry eyes too.

I'm shaky. Soooo tired as I have also been told I have an under active thyroid gland. Getting medication for that soon too. I feel so rough don't know how to help myself.

Hi Lisa welcome to the forum.

I too have just been diagnosed as hypothyroid and started on medication a month ago.

I do feel a bit livelier on some days and on other days I have little or no get up and go!

I did find that cutting out most carbs except veggies and the odd protein roll from Lidls made me feel much better even though at the time my hypothyroidism was unmedicated at the time.

Once you get the thyroxine you will soon start to feel much better.

Thanks for the reply Lynn. I didn't realise it was one illness I thought the thyroid and diabetes were separate. I'm going to do a bit of research.

I'm sticking strictly to what the nurse told me to eat burin struggling to work out what food suits me. I've had a couple of days where no matter what I eat I feel tired and shaky. I've got a lot to learn I think.

It is two different illnesses. Just that we both seem to have been diagnosed at the same time.

I have read that diabetics are more susceptible to thyroid problems but it's not necessarily the case.

Seems we were just unlucky in one sense and lucky in another that we will now get treatment for both conditions.

Hi Lisa and welcome to the forum. Hope you start feeling better soon.

Hi lisa and welcome to forum.
I was dignosed with underactive thyroid 11 years ago and at that time felt i was walking through treacle, worked nights and by 9.30 was ready for bed. Once the thyroxine levels were corrected i felt heaps better. the gp checked my BG levels routinely yearly. The starting time of that diagnosis was a hard time and i was furious that my body let me down.now my thyroid levels have been stable but interestingly a bit knocked off in november

Diabetes was diagnosed in november and i thought i was doing no bad on the acceptance front but i have good and bad times, possibly because i am trying to gain knowledge and control of what i do to a body that has responses that i have to learn to understand, and having to make lifestyle changes (hate excercise)

I totally empathise with both you and lynn for your diagnosis of both conditions together and hope that this reply helps you in your journeys.

Good info and support from others here on the forum lisa. Be kind to yourselves and remember that the tirednessfrom hypothyroisism is not in your head as some knowledgeable people may try to suggest☺☺☺

Thank you for all the supportive replies I've had since joining just last night. I feel better knowing I can chat with people who understand.

My husband is very supportive but he isn't well himself. He had a stroke 18 months ago and has fybromyalgia so I try not to let on to him how rough I'm feeling.

I'm not an exercise person Carolg but I work full time in London, I'm an Avon rep and I have a little dog who would walk for miles if I let her so on an average day I'm doing nearly 7 miles of walking each day.

It's so frustrating. Sticking to this new food and not losing a pound due to the thyroid.

Walking through treacle is a very good definition.

I can't wait to get on the medication. I just want to feel better.

I'll let you know how I get on at my appt on Friday xxxx

Sometimes lisa, its good to know you can say the things you need to say, to other people who have been somewhere near where you are now, without worrying the folks you love.good luck on friday

Hi Lisa, hopefully once you're on the right meds and getting everything under control things will get easier. Sorry to hear about your husband. This forum is a great place for help and advice or even if you just want a rant from time to time. I work in central London. I walk to my office everyday, as long as it's not chucking it down.

Glad you are feeling better about your conditions Lisa - just be aware that it can take a long time for the Thyroid stuff to get sorted out and it isn't an instant pill thing.

I feel quite perky today but I know that tomorrow with be a 'treacle' sort of day - looking on the bright side - blooming good excuse not to exercise!! 😳😉:D

Hang in there....once you get on the right medication and look at what you need to eat, to keep your levels good...you'll feel better, for sure....you just need to fine the right balance for you...

Helen
