Hello
I'm Graham, I'm 47 and from Teesside.
I was diagnosed Type 2 when I'd just turned 40 and to a certain extent I'm still in denial.

What made me register and post today is that I've just checked my BG and it's astronomical.....29.3!!!! And apart from cough sweets, I've not actually eaten anything for 5 hours now.
I am just recovering from a particularly persistent virus, and I know that can increase sugar levels. Is the lightheaded feeling and the pain behind the left eye related to it as well? I'm not dehydrated but am still very thirsty.

It's not fun this disease is it!

That's very high NC! Maybe a call to your surgery for advice wouldn't go amiss. Are you on medication? Infection does push our levels up considerably but as you're feeling unwell and have a pain behind your eye, I think you should ask for advice. Good luck.
 
Thanks Amigo, I shall check again at 4 and if it's still really high, I'll give my diabetes nurse a ring.
 
I agree about contacting your nurse because that level is very high. Also, unless the cough sweets are labelled as sugar-free they could be very high in sugars. What type are you using?
 
How are you now Graham? Let us know how things are when you get a chance. Hope the levels have settled.
 
Hello everyone, and thanks for the advice.
My BG before breakfast this morning was 22.3, so I phoned the diabetes nurse.
She's told me that, yes, being ill does elevate the glucose levels, but that the readings I've been having are still really high.
She has told me to increase the dose of Gliclazide that I take, and she wants me to go and pick up a new monitor, just to be on the safe side. I've got to phone her back in a week's time and see how they are. If they're still high, she mentioned that we may have to go down the insulin option.

Glad she seems to be on the ball anyway Graham. Keep an eye on things and hope you feel better soon. Amigo
