Been a member here for a couple of years but have never posted. Should probably have spent more time here as I think this place offers quite a balanced approach to support. Hope to be able to contribute something positive while I'm here.
Hi @beating_my_betes, glad you've felt able to post today, and comment on others' posts too. Feel free to share a little bit about your diabetes management, or any questions, with the community. Welcome aboard! 🙂
Unless it's obligatory, I'll hold off for the moment. I was a member of another UK diabetes forum for some years, and I know the crossover of members and/or readership is probably quite high. As such, I think many here will probably be quite aware of my journey.
I'm not sure how long I'll stay here, but at some point I will likely do an update.

I’m one who prefers to use management as a way to describe my ham-fisted efforts at trying to keep my blood glucose in range rather than the ‘control’ that was always used in the past,
Partly because there are a bunch of things that can affect my BG levels over which I have no control whatever. I can only manage their effects as best I can. 🙂
Well done for de-lurking. look forward to hearing more of your experiences when you are ready.
Confrontation can be good, just as long as all parties are interested in getting to the truth of the matter.
I'm quite a divisive character, and there are certain reasons why I'm likely to rub people the wrong way, on these forums. And while I doubt it'll be hugely different here, with regard to day-to-day interactions with certain members, I do feel that the general ethos of this place is much more conducive and inclusive.

You are right, that so much of this condition is unmeasurable, unknowable and to a certain extent remains outside of our control. But at least you seem to be doing what you can. My tofu-fisted attempts have been far more lack-lustre, hence my sarcastic wink.
Should've de-lurked earlier. I was somewhat aware of conflict between here and elsewhere and feared even bigger problems if I tried to straddle different boats. Now that I have left one place, I feel a bit more comfortable being here.
I'm not entirely convinced there's a place for me here, either, but we shall see.
I would like to document more of my journey, but I'm not sure that has worked for me thus far. It's probably better to wait until I have news worth sharing.
I’m sort of familiar with the call in radio shows which tends to make me chuckle Tim Westwood on my late night travels was one such show, where people would call in to “big up da big dog.” Only to find themselves talking up a blind alley with the drink or “herb” related stimulants as they navigate the urban dictionary.
Personally I dislike confrontation, but I do like a civilised exchange of viewpoints.
Accurate facts (or truth as you may term it) are one of my favourite things (oh boy does that make me sound like a sad nerd )

We do try to keep things friendly, inclusive, and supportive. And we ask that all members abode by our user guidelines (which they sign-up to at registration.
Folks are free to share their personal experiences, and where people have found things very successful for them, they are likely to be enthusiastic advocates of that approach (eg weight loss, low carb, or low fat), but what we know from the forum is that there are no absolutes with diabetes, there’s no one approach that suits (or even works effectively) for everyone, so we try to ensure that suggestions are made as options that might be considered or adapted, or blended with other strategies, rather than as The Way.

Absolutely! It wouldn't matter even if there were a most effective approach. People have to want or be able to follow it.
Similar to the answer to the question, "What's the best exercise to stay fit?", the best approach to dealing with diabetes is "whichever one is enjoyable enough and feels leat restictive for you to stick with".
Anyone advocating for one approach only is doing a huge disservice to anyone who falls outside of that narrow path.

To clarify, it's not the confrontation part that I like. It's the results that can often lie in its wake. In the same way as a heated argument with a family member, friend or partner can help clear the cobwebs and lead to clarity.
