Hi and welcome. You have come to the right place for advice and support because we are all facing similar challenges. Having the right information and advice is key to improving things, so hopefully we can help you make some steps in the right direction.

Can you tell us a bit about your diabetes.... ie the medication that you are currently using to manage it, your most recent HbA1c result if you know it and what if any dietary/lifestyle changes you have made to help manage your diabetes? Unfortunately many people assume that it is like most other illnesses and taking tablets will sort it, but that needs to be combined with lifestyle changes with diabetes to be effective.
Losing weight is often helpful, but we all know that isn't as easily done as said. Do you have much/any weight to lose and how physically active/mobile are you?

What does a typical day's foos and drink look like for you... ie. the sort of things you currently have for breakfast, lunch and evening meal and any snacks in between. Many of us cut out the sugar and sweet stuff when we were first diagnosed or suspected diabetes but it is actually all carbohydrates including some otherwise healthy ones, which raise our BG levels, so being aware of which foods cause us problems and need to be rationed and more importantly which foods are fine for us and we can enjoy without any problem to our diabetes is key to managing diabetes well and it doesn't have to be all "sack cloth and ashes" by any means. Just a will to change and perhaps discover new tasty foods and let go of some which are causing us problems.

The answers to the questions above will help us to give you more appropriate advice.

Sorry in delay on answering the post, I am 64 and was diagnosed over 15 years ago my Father and younger brother both type1. I was diagnosed as type 2 during a routine health check blood test with no symptoms so did not actually know how long I had it. They immediately put me on meds metformin which did not suit me (I now know it was because of my general diet) with no advice on dietary help so for many years I just took the meds and suffered really bad stomach issues never off the loo.
More recently I have had more medical input but again focused on more on meds I am currently on 300mg Canagliflozin 1 daily. Metformin 500mg 2 daily and Gliclazide 60mg. My diet has fluctated throughout the years and recently the past 12 months terrible not really caring what I ate ( Got to be honest). My last Hba1c was improved at 59mmol/mol.
Since joining Diaberes UK I have been much better and its only been weeks. I am 4ft 11" and currently weigh just under 9st but my waist measurement is still over 30" so this is the honest truth all these years and I just feel I am learning a little about my condition hope I haven't bored you too much thanks in advance Grandma Ju Ju
