Diabetes UK would value your help with our new Live Well, Move More Programme which aims to support people living with diabetes to be more active. We know that moving more can really help people to manage their diabetes, and we will be helping people to making it part of their day-to-day.

We are creating online resources, leaflets, videos, as well as offering regular practical and supporting calls from our Helpline Adviser, @Francesca DUK who will be able to help build your confidence in moving more.

The programme is sponsored by Sport England and we are looking for people who want to move more and are:
  • Living with type 2 diabetes from a South Asian heritage
  • Newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes
  • Living with type 1 diabetes

If you are interested, please send @Francesca DUK a private message to register for this. She is really looking forward to hearing from you and can answer any questions that you may have.

Anyone see Joe Wicks doing his Children in Need 24 hour workout on breakfast TV today? Man! He looked so tired towards the end, but what an amazing effort!

Do the type 2 Diabetics have to only be South Asian Heritage ?

Do the type 2 Diabetics have to only be South Asian Heritage ?

I suggest you drop @Francesca DUK a line.

I think they were hoping to support those most in need (eg newly diagnosed T2s who may not have exercised much, and also T2s of S Asian heritage), but they may well have room for others too.

Hi, so our target groups for this programme are people newly diagnosed (within 2 years) with type 2 of any ethnicity or
those living with type 2 diabetes for any length of time from a South Asian heritage. However, even if you don't meet this criteria I am still happy to offer you support, resources and information about moving more.

So please do message me if this would be helpful.

Hi @Francesca DUK - Could you please tell me more about live well, move more programme. I am a health and wellbeing coach and would like to advise patients how to access this programme?

Many thanks,
Georgia 🙂

Hi Georgia, thank you for expressing interest.

The programme has been created to help people with diabetes increase their activity levels to better manage their diabetes. We know increasing activity levels can be challenging so we offer participants up to six telephone sessions, for up to an hour each time. The sessions are coaching and motivational based in order to overcome any emotional barriers, whilst taking into account physical ones too.

To access this programme people can contact me on here or get in touch with our Helpline:

Diabetes UK Helpline | Diabetes UK

I hope this helps; do let me know if you have any further questions.

Hi Francessca, I have just seen this thread. I need ideas to help me move more during the working day, I sit behind a desk for 10 hours and although I try and set myself goals to get the step count up I don't feel its productive. Spring and summer aren't too much of an issue as I can go for a walk straight after work but the winter months I struggle. Any suggestions would be really welcome

Hi, thank you for reaching out. This is a common challenge at the moment but definitely something we could discuss and work on. Would you like to arrange a time to chat on the phone? If so please do private message me with your contact details.
