Lisinopril side effects?

I used to take a statin drug, Lipitor, to control my cholesterol level, but stopped in Feb 2013 as I was suffering from side effects; general tiredness & aching legs, and things improved a lot. The drug was precautionary, and now I have an incentive to eat well, my cholesterol level is still acceptable.

I still don't feel too well - not desperately ill enough to take to my bed, just generally unfit & miserable. Symptoms include vague weakness & lethargy, aching legs (still, but not as bad), and a semi permanent sniffle, cough & sore throat.
I take Lisinopril to control my blood pressure. Do you know if that might account for my symptoms?

My doctor has prescribed some pain killers & nasal sprays, without much success. As my BP is acceptable I would like to try giving up the Lisinopril for a while and see what happens. I have my own BP machine so I could monitor what happens. Any comments?
 
What sort of dose are you on of the lisinopril? Might the GP be agreeable to a short period of not taking them to see if the symptoms go and the BP stays OK? Do consult with them first though, there may be reasons why you need to gradually reduce the dose or he might want to try you on a different type of tablet instead.

I'm on a different BP drug, candesartan, but a very low dose and could probably do without them, but don't get any side-effects so am continuing to take them. It's the only medication I'm on apart from insulin.
 
Hi Zuludog. Ive been on Lisinopril for 6 months and ive had no side effects at all. Ive not even had a cold while ive been on them,so maybe its not down to them?
Im on 5mg a day..so a very low dose. I started off on 10 mg...but still didn't have any problems.
 
I take 1 X 20mg mg lisinopril each morning.
I've recently had blood samples to check things like thyroid problems or any other factors.

I'll make an appointment for the results soon and see what we can sort out

I hope you get some respite soon the aching legs i can relate to i had them last night aching restless I've been given diazapam 2mg for muscle spasms ive tried not to take them unless desperate. I am restless tonight so I've taken one. Hope you feel better v soon
 
Lisinopril is an ACE inhibitor, any ACE inhibitor can give you a persistent dry cough and if one does it they all will (they all end in ~pril)

However you can swap to an ARB instead - which I had to cos of the cough from Lisinopril - changed to Losartan (they all end in ~sartan - like Candesartan, Olmesartan etc)
