Thank you Copepod. you are echoing what I thought. I phoned the GP surgery after last posting on here - didn't get past the receptionist. She spoke to the diabetic nurse who just send a message back saying keep taking insulin as normal and have more blood tests that normal. That was it. They didn't check my records and didn't even consider the gastroparesis or any of the medications that I am on. Feeling thoroughly fed up with trying to get help. I've just eaten some dry biscuits in the hope that I can keep them down.

Amanda,
one very important rule to remember if you want/need to speak to your GP, do not tell the receptionist the reason.
It's none of her business, she isn't medically qualified.
There is no law that says you have to disclose any info to her at all.

Hope you feel better soon.

Sorry to hear you're not feeling well & you too have the Guardians of the GPs working at your surgery!! 😡 (One at our surgery tried to tell me she knew all about D because she'd googled it - I'm still quite proud of myself for not swearing lol! 🙄)

There are loads of odd bugs doing the rounds in our neck of the woods - not much comfort but hopefully it's a bug not your gastro condition getting worse - fingers crossed after a good night's sleep tonight you'll feel better tomorrow! xx (ps - hope the study time was fun & productive! 🙂 You've had me thinking about Dickens & am still looking for that copy of the magazine lol!)

Hi How are you feeling now, any better? Maybe once you have a good nights sleep( I really hope you do) you might feel a little better in the morning. Sending a big hug to you ((((((((( )))))))) Take care Sheena X

Hope you feel better soon! 🙂

You must just ask for a telephone consultation with your GP, don't tell receptionists what for - it's personal thanks and they ain't qualified!!

Thank you everyone. Still feeling much more nauseous and sickly than normal and don't have much of an appetite. Managed to keep food down from 3.30pm yesterday onwards and made myself eat small amounts at regular intervals. I know that I'm trying to lose weight but still very surprised (in not a good way) that I've lost three pounds in only two days😱

I agree but previously when I've phoned during the day to say that I need to see a doctor they've insisted that I phone at 8am the next day to make an appointment. They only break this "rule" if they think you are serious enough

Hi Amanda,
they (receptionists) are not qualified to make a diagnoses or judgement. If you need an emergency apt they must give an apt,as always a space to see someone. Same with speaking to a Dr. Have a look at the practice charter and see what it says.

If I need some info or have a problem I just ring the receptionists and ask for a call back. There is never a quible. We are told it will be after surgery has finished, but if it's an emergencey to make it known to the staff and a call will be put through as soon as the Dr has finished with the patient he has in with him.
