Hello lovelies ,
Well hasn’t life turned around for me in a good way I promise .
I have a job it won’t last forever it will only be around until maybe January or February next year but hey it’s money , it’s expirence and I get to gain my confidence back again , it isn’t the greatest job but the pay I’m not complaining as it’s the most I have ever gotten an hour . I drive my manual daily and not doing to bad of a job especially backing in to car spaces at work where there’s no other cars around as I’m now getting better at it haha , I started with auto but I fell in love with manuals . So I been keeping myself very busy which to me i love , I also got a new puppy 🙂 and I love her very much .

my question is , because I have my medication review this coming Friday with my nurse , do I do what the specialist said and drop it down to 500mg on metformin or as my doctor may of suggested to let me off the medication ???

Also is soda water or sparkling water okay to have if I was to ever want say a tiny amount of vodka ?????

Awwww! A new puppy. How lovely 😛

I find spirits don’t raise my BG - and yes, I would have diet mixers.

I don’t think anyone can advise much about medication, because we haven’t been involved in the conversations - but the way you have described it, it sounds like you are more clear about the advice from the specialist?

Hope the appointment with your nurse goes well 🙂

Yup, soda water is fine, I drink a lot. Very occasionally on top of Campari, but mostly on its own with ice. If you like vodka, it works better with soda if you use a flavoured vodka, lemon, marmalade or my favourite, which I discovered in Moscow, was chilli flavoured. Don’t know if such beasts are available in Australia, but would make those tiny vodkas and soda much more tasty.

She’s adorable , she’s only 13 weeks old and she absolutely adorable ,

I’ll have to test mine and see what happens , I managed to get my bgs and HBA1c levels back to normal I’m just trying to keep it that way so I don’t go over again . I guess I’m just worried if I try something then finger prick myself and see that it didn’t agree with me , I guess I don’t like numbers to some degree but it’s better to know then not .

I’m hoping maybe they will take me off it for a while and see how I go but I’m guessing the specialist is only suggesting .

thankyou everydayupsanddowns

Thankyou MikeyB , cause all I was going to do was vodka and soda water with lemon and lime in it as a once off treat every now and then more like a blue moon , just to take that wanting alcohol edge off . Thankyou for the suggestions to I do appericate it, because I have a taste for vodka at the moment lol

When my HbA1c came back as normal at the start of the year my GP suggested staying on metformin and retesting in six months. After a bit of a discussion we agreed I would stop taking metformin and retest in three months to see what impact stopping had had. The retest was good so no problems.

Hello adrain1der
This is what my specialist suggested aswell , she will get me to do another test in 6 months I’ll talk to her again and if she’s happy with that then she will discharge me from her but I got put back on 500 mg well I will be after I see my nurse this Friday . But I have to finish my 1000mg so it doesn’t go to waste .

Hey guys are these ice creams okay?? I will test myself but wanted a tiny treat especially for when summer comes . I was looking a halo and they were higher in carbs and sugar then what these are

I wouldn't worry about the waste. I have a virtually unused box of metformin in the medicine cupboard that hopefully I will not need.

To me it looks like utterly worthless processed crap & 100ml of it would give me just about my total daily saturated fat allowance.

With your brilliant HbA1c I'd say that carbs are about the last thing you should be worrying about.

Hey adrain1der I wouldn’t be worried either but my nurse and doctor always told me to finish the medication first then go back to 500 mg again . Even if I did ask them if I should go and get more medication .

Why not just get a real icecream or gelato or something? Probably tastes way better, probably better for you & no nasty xylitol.

I honestly totally forgot about gelato , is xylitol that bad ??????
I think it varies a lot by individual. It can give me an upset tum. Plus, I think it tastes like some kind of industrial chemical.

How these sugar alcohols effect yr blood glucose can vary a lot also. They get fermented by microbes in your gut, rather than being digested, a mysterious process which can actually result in more of a BG impact than you'd expect. Anyway, that's what I find.

So: not a *huge* fan of xylitol 🙂

Thankyou for that Eddy I’ll defiantly take note of that .

Real ice cream is wonderful - it is actually a custard base made with eggs - I used to make it with scalded milk like my grandmother - it was sold as 'Forget me not' from a little shop in Derbyshire. These days I use thinned down cream.
If it turns out with large crystals it froze too slowly - adding a little alcohol to the mixture after it has been chilled for a while should sort it out.
It cam be coloured and given a base flavour with things from the baking aisles.

Hey

hey travellor have any suggestions on real ice cream ?????
I’ll defiantly go back to real ice cream .

I buy good quality artisan ice cream, I have a few good farm shops nearby.
However, I also eat Walls Cornish ice cream, and other decent quality supermarket ones.
If you are testing, you can always check and see what effect they have on you.
