You could have a look at the Insurance Surgery. It really depends on why you need the insurance, but you’re a bit old to get away with anything cheap. Wherever you go, you’ll be hard pressed to get away with less than £50 a month. There’s actually quite a large number of companies providing cover for diabetics, so it’s quite competitive. You will have to declare your HbA1c levels, mind. The better your control, the cheaper it gets.
Hi Simon, welcome to the forum. My apologies - I have just responded to your other thread: https://forum.diabetes.org.uk/boards/threads/life-insurance.73184/
As I mentioned, currently Diabetes UK's Insurance partner offer Travel Insurance, but perhaps someone else will be able to offer a suggestion from experience. Can see you have had a couple of suggestions already 🙂
Hi there
The best insurer depends a little bit on the individual and to what extent their diabetes has affected them
Most insurers will increase the cost for people with diabetes by a percentage known as a rating
The most common increase is 75% on top of the normal price.
Royal London have recently released a product specifically designed for Diabetics, you can send them your HbA1c level each year and if it improves the price of the cover can come down (and never go up from the original)
In my opinion you are still better off going for a standard policy if possible first with the right insurer as they are priced lower, and in some cases if your HbA1c levels are well controlled and there are few complications it can be possible to get life insurance at normal rates with no increase
Royal London, Legal & General and in some cases AIG can often offer life insurance to customers following a questionnaire as long as you know your most recent readings, without you having to have a physical medical or even a doctors report.
hope this helps
Terry
