I had a decent policy with a small company that became bad when they were taken over by one of the big boys who prefer paying themselves bonuses!

A mortgage adviser arranged life assurance on our first mortgage with what was then Norwich Union (now Aviva) which was good value at the time and ultimately paid out on Critical Illness when my late wife got ill. No idea what they have on offer these days.
