Type 3c
Hi all,

Type 1 for 2 and a half years after acute pancreatitis. Manging fine with the usual ups and downs!

Recently bought a Garmin smart watch as the constant pulling out a phone etc for readings is starting to do my head in to be honest!

I know the topic has been covered alot on here but I cant seem to get my head around it.

Is anyone able to provide a step by step guide into how to get it to work? I am aware of the limitations, just purely want to see my BG at a glance on my watch face.

Appreciate the help team!

Thank you! As a former heating engineer I can fit and commission central heating systems but cannot for the life of me get my head around this! haha

SLH, you are a star. Thank you!

Will report back...

Sorry, only just logged in, ping a response on here if you're still having troubles and I'll check back tomorrow (for some reason I don't always get notifications, strange)

Hi Simon, hate to be that guy but yip, still troubles! Haha. No rush for a response, really appreciate it guys.

Wishing you all the best with jumping through the electronic hoops. get your tech playing nicely @JamesyFFC

As an aside, I notice you mention pancreatitis in your opening post. This suggests that you may have Type 3c Diabetes, which is treated very much like T1 but is a rarer form (which many non-specialist Drs have never heard of!). Do you take Creon to help with digestion?

Hi mate,

You are 100% correct, it is type 3c. Didnt want to overcomplicate my first post on here! haha. Caused by a dodgy gall stone I believe. 6 months in hospital aged 26, sepsis, had to learn to walk again, never fully recovered, 6 years on mobility still terrible using crutches. Luckily have finally been told I am getting surgery within 6 months to rebuild the tendons in my left foot which should help with the drop foot and I may get lucky and recover to an extent I can ditch the crutches. 33 this month and its been one horrendous ride!

You are spot on about the Dr's. First case I was told i was type 2 and suggested to have "one less potato with tea and no coca cola". Knew it wasnt right so pushed to be referred to the local hospital diabetes team who luckily are great so far.

I do take creon, but again, the dosage and communication on it isnt great I dont think. Feels like alot of guess work if I am honest! Levels are good, have the good and bad weeks like everyone but currently on a 90 day TIR % of 85%, doing what I can! I've dipped in and out of the forum but never posted and not sure why to be honest. Find it quite daunting, I see what others go through in regards and sometimes feel like I dont take it serious enough, despite what I like to think is pretty good control.

cheers!

Great to hear you are doing so well, and well done on de-lurking on the forum 🙂

You might want to edit your account to update your diabetes type (your user control panel is at the top of the page under your ‘avatar’ (currently a coloured circle for you).

We have quite a few Type 3cs in circulation, including pancreatitis and surgically-derived members 🙂

So what have you tried so far?

The first step is to ask which Garmin watch you have so we can check compatibility with datafields/watchfaces (below).

Second is to ask which app you're using to talk to your CGM. I use Juggluco and XDrip+, either of those will provide a local webserver that supplies the data to the Garmin Connect app (and accepts step count and heart rate from it). The Garmin app then passes data back and forth to the watch (or bike headunit), so the next step is the selection of a datafield and/or watchface that will display the relevant data.

The datafield (for cycling) and watchface (on my Fenix) I use are linked from this post: https://forum.diabetes.org.uk/boards/threads/question-for-current-xdrip-users.108143/#post-1291084

Hi Simon, appreciate your time!

SO far, I have read lots, but not yet took a dive into anything as to be honest, it is a minefield!

I have a Garmin Venu3. Currently all I use is the LibreLink app on my iphone for CGM, nothing else. Coming into it fresh! haha.

I wont be offended if you speak to me like i am 7 years old here. Infact I will prefer it as my mind is blown.

thanks again everyone.

Hi @JamesyFFC
Afraid I can't help with the tech issues but wanted to welcome you as another Type 3c due to pancreatitis. Also with a 6 month hospital stay.
Sorry to hear about the mobility issues but good to hear the news about the operation.

Hi, scarily similar circumstance! Necrotising pancreatitis also. Went from a sore stomach as I thought i had eaten too much to 6 months in hopsital. Staying on the positive side of things as nothing else for it with a 3 year old daughter keeping me going!

So the Garmin app stuff all still stands, your watch is modern so the Gamin ConnectIQ datafile and watchface should work (the only danger being that it may be too modern unless the apps have been updated to support newer devices - which is afaict often simply a box ticking exercise rather than anything code related.) You can check compatibility by following the links above through to the ConnectIQ plugin page where it lists compatible devices. I'll also have a look.

So, an Apple device, hmm, this is where my experience runs out I'm afraid. There is an iPhone version of XDrip, though it is a re-implementation rather than the same code, so it likely now differs in both look and functionality, however, I think it does provide the same support for Garmin devices. Another one I read about a lot on here is Suggah (iirc the spelling) though I don't know if that supports Garmin watches.

I'd be tempted to do a search including Apple/iPhone along with Garmin in the search terms and see what you come up with. It would perhaps also be worth starting a new thread mentioning Apple iPhone + Garmin watch in the title to see if that attracts any iPhone experts. More than happy to cast my eye over anything you find, but I'm afraid I don't have any experience with iPhones.

You could also read this thread, I know it's mainly Galaxy related, but might work also for Garmin? Or at least give you some pointers towards a solution.
