Hi.
I was only diagnosed T2 in August so it's all still very new for me. But as a Geek by training & inclination, I wanted to get a better visualisation of what my sugars were doing.
The Practice Nurse poo-poo'd my telling her that I'd bought a finger test machine in her 'Welcome to Diabetes' consultation. Her attitude was "Why put your fingers through that when we'll do another A1c in 3 months?, just give up sugar..."
Err well, having that info might just help me get the A1c down!! To be fair she also did a foot check, suggested changing to sourdough & said her family was basically vegan so had few other suggestions... (A month later, I got on a seminar with the local diabetes team which was much better - but I've had much more info & an action plan to reduce carbs from this & other reputable sites it must be said so I was able to hit the ground running after the headf**k of the first week or two!)
Anyway, I thought I'd try a CGM, I very much like the idea of having that much information to work with so went for a trial of the Libre2+ and the Dexcom One+.
I was quite unhappy with the Libre, it consistently over read when compared to finger pricks (allowing for a time delay), anywhere from 20 - 40%!
Libre agreed to replace it. They did. And then rang a few days later to say they'd sent the wrong sensor! A Libre 2 and not a Libre2+. Credit to them for spotting it & getting in touch.
So I'm currently using an L2+, which again seems to be over reading some of the time. Varying from -1% to +24% (mean of +16.2%) compared with finger prick. Not too bad I guess, I think +/- 20% is the industry expectation.
After that finishes I've got an L2 to use that they wrongly sent - might as well use it given the cost of them! And even if I don't quite trust the absolute numbers, the graph shape is a good indicator of what's going on. (Although if eBay allowed it, I'd probably sell the unused L2 and go straight to Dexcom).
In between the original trial L2+ and its replacement, I went for a trial of the Dexcom ONE+. I noticed it too had a tendancy to err on the over read but not as significantly and what I really liked was the ability to calibrate it to a finger prick. With my electronics/instrumentation background, I do like things that be calibrated!
Does anyone know how long it retains that calibration? Do you need to do it every day or does it retain it & refine its calibration curves as you add more cal points in?
Any better deals than their quarterly subscription does anyone know? Can't see any discount codes on Bluelight for example ☹
It's interesting that some folk report greater accuracy from Libre and others, like me, from the Dexcom. I wonder if it's some feature of physiology that accounts for that?
