hi Kaylz, my sensor reacted very much like your pic shows and on occasion would read LO for hours. I initially panicked but ended up calling Libre and they sugested that I wait til the next day before contacting them again when it had started to work properly. It happened with quite a few units and I tried various things and various positions but the only thing that worked for me was to change it just before a high carb meal and that seemed to kick start the proper readings. I only managed to do this a couple of times before the update and it hasn;t happened since. good luck with what ever you try 🙂

it's a week old and still often reading 2mmol+ lower 🙄 my highest carb meal is only 40g carbs and I prefer to have it in action by then xx

I agree, I must add that I'm impressed with your carbs, I eat way more than that( I wonder if thats why my sugars are higher?) lol X

i wouldn't be, still trying to overcome demons of my eating disorder (irrational fear of carbs) xx

So sorry to hear that, as if we didn't have enough to deal with eh? xx June
scaring comments is part of what brought it on, I was unfortunate enough to be diagnosed with diabetic macular oedema less than a month after I was diagnosed Type 1 and a fellow Type 1 who was a very keen low carber said it was my own fault as I'd been eating carbs :( thanks xx

I only ever start the next one when the old one ends too. Though I’ve heard several people say they insert and leave theirs 12-24 hours to ‘bed in’. I’ve never had an issues that has made me feel the need to try that out. I’ve had a handful of duff sensors (or ones that perhaps just didn’t insert well - who can tell?) but those have always just been replaced.

Sorry I can’t be more helpful

Hi everyone

I’ve not posted for a long time but I had an incident with my Libre today. I was putting on a new one and it wouldn’t come off my arm, the whole thing was just stuck, when I gently levered it off it had left the little filament in my arm. Obviously I’ve had to discard the whole thing and will ring them tomorrow. My arm looks ok, just a little red mark where it went in. Do you think it will just work itself out or maybe dissolve. It’s not painful but I don’t like the thought of it being there. We walk about with these things attached to us without a problem but usually they come out unless it sometimes happens and people don’t realise. Thanks.

you haven't thrown it away? Abbott will want it all back to investigate, it wont dissolve, it might work itself out but if you have tweezers I'd suggest you try and get it out if possible or if you have magnesium sulphate put some on with a plaster and hopefully that will draw it out xx

@bonnytiz
Or..... go to a minor injuries walk in centre and ask them to remove it if you can't manage to get it out yourself.

Was this the old sensor that you were taking off after applying the new one or did something go wrong with the application process which caused you to try to remove a new one?

@bonnytiz ,welcome to the forum. It won’t dissolve, it may work itself out over time but imo it’s best to remove it, if you can’t get it out with tweezers go to a walk in centre , minor injuries unit air practice nurse at the Gp.

I can’t see it or feel it, I will ring them tomorrow. Surely it can’t do any harm, we permanently have one under our skin when we use libra.

Hi, it was a new sensor, the applicator wouldn’t come off to leave the sensor and when I tried to remove it it left the filament in my arm. Never heard of this happening before. I can’t see anything, just the pin prick,

I’ve kept everything so they can see what happened. I wonder if it’s ever happened before. I didn’t do anything differently, it just didn’t work properly.

@bonnytiz if you cant see or feel anything what makes you think the filament is in your arm? I don't quite understand, the thing is if it is there it could cause infection like splinters do etc, its different from still being attached to the Libre sensor as there are no "open" parts for infection to get into when the sensors in place unlike just a filament being left in your arm xx

Well if it’s not in my arm where is it? It’s certainly not attached to the sensor. I don’t think I would be able to feel something as fine as that. There is just a pin prick where it went in. I’ve felt for it but can’t feel anything. I’ve kept everything so Libra can see what happened. I’m anxious now as I don’t know what will happen. It seems such a minor thing to bother the dr with. Thanks.

how do you know? if nothing came unattached from the applicator you wouldn't be able to see just the filament as you would only see the needle if it hasn't pushed in and released the sensor

It’s difficult to explain what I mean, the sensor is still attached to the applicator without the filament. I applied it as usual but it wouldn’t come off my arm again. I had to really prise it off and it came off with the sensor still attached but without the filament. So if the filament isn’t on the sensor where is it other than still in my arm. Hope this explains it. It’s hard to explain. I’m quite anxious as I suffer from anxiety anyway. I will ring in the morning and I’m hoping they will understand what I mean and tell me it will be ok. Thanks for being there.

but if the applicator didn't release the sensor it isn't very likely the filament is in your arm if you cant feel or see anything, you cant see the filament of the sensor when applying as you see the needle of the applicator that pierces the skin so unless you've managed to un attach the sensor from the failed applicator I fail to see how you are certain the filament isn't still attached to said sensor, if the sensor is still attached to the applicator now then there is no way to tell if its there or not, if there isn't even sign of the needle and it retracted then it has possibly pulled the filament back up into the applicator as I have seen the filament hanging out the outside having not stayed in the arm on failed applications on many Libre Facebook groups

I wonder if it’s the same thing as happened to me once... the needle withdrew and as it did it sort of dragged the flexible filament back into the sensor itself concertina style. So my arm had the puncture mark of the applicator needle, but the filament hadn’t been left there, it was scrumpled up back inside the sensor sensor didn’t work... obviously! It just wouldn’t start.
