Libre Sensor Trial Off

I have been on the waiting list for a Libre Sensor trial for a while but have now been told I do not qualify because I am allergic to the white tape they use at hospitals/doctors. Feeling a little disappointed as I was looking forward to giving it a go. :(
 
That is a shame. I'm guessing they think you'll be allergic to the sticky stuff on the sensor
 
I'm allergic to the white tape they use in hospitals but I can use the sensors just fine. No reactions for me.

I don't quite understand what you mean by a trial. I buy my own libre, as do many people on here. A friend of mine were given some free vouchers though. I can see if he has any more.
 
@Amberzak some NHS diabetic clinics are trialling the Libre. I know mine is. I asked about it but was told there are too many people wanting to trial it but they put my name down. I think it's a 3 month trial

I bet people are queuing out the door and up to the high street to go on the trial. :D

They said I might not react but cannot take the chance due to the expense of the sensors etc. It is a shame. My diabetic clinic are allowing some people to trial the libre sensor for a week then to purchase after that if they like it. The criteria is that you have to test blood sugar more than 4 times a day and not be allergic to the tape. I was all set but fell at the final hurdle. I can't afford to fund one myself at the moment.

I'll see if my friend has any more of the free vouchers. You get one sensor and the scanner and you just have to pay for the postage.

They are!! I think every type 1 in my area has probably asked!
 
Not quite sure how or why but Abbott sent me one direct.

If it's Truro you are under then they is a tad behind the times regarding technology ( I was quoted 40 year old research) have they not heard of barrier skintac or tegaderm sp* If they have taken this attitude with you then you will never get a pump.

It is Truro, yes. The diabetes care here now is declining so fast, it's scary. I did think that, about a pump, when she said it tbh.
 
Sorry to hear this, Newbs. It is a surprising criteria because it's unlikely to be the same sort of sticky stuff, as Amberzak has found. I'm allergic to the white tape too, but I had an ECG the other day, which uses much stickier stuff, and I had no allergic reaction at all to that so I'm hopeful Libre sensors might be OK for me. I was offered the chance to join a group trial here - no mention of allergies, I just got a letter inviting me to go along - but I had to decline because I couldn't do the group thing. Instead they're trying to sort me out a CGM for a few days to see how I get on with that, and if I am OK with its sensors I might be able to get a Libre (though I might just buy one myself if I have to wait much longer 🙄).

Best of luck, hope you get on ok with the CGM. I have had a few ECGs and been fine with them too, no reaction. I'm ok with normal plasters too, just react to the white stuff!
 
Thanks, Newbs, and I hope you are able to manage to get a Libre to try somehow. I get hypoallergenic plasters and I'm OK with micropore tape, but the tape they want to use to stick the cotton wool on when I have a blood test burns my skin.
