My Consultant let me know today that they have agreed my funding for the Libre sensors. I met all the criteria that were set by the CCG and the Diabetes team.
Such good news. I feel very fortunate.

Crikey! 😱 Let's hope many more are forthcoming too 🙂 What criteria did they stipulate, out of interest?

I will publish the list once it is public. I did get early sight of it, so once I have the hard copy of the letter I will list them here. There are no surprises.

That is good news, SB2015 - I'm pleased for you. I'll be interested to see the criteria too - have to see (yet another) new consultant next month and try to explain to him or her why I have so many hypos and there's nothing I can do about it, and how my ME effects my diabetes, and how I'd really like to try some sort of CGM and a pump. It would be good to be able to take some criteria for getting Libre sensors on the NHS with me to the appointment!

I’m pleased they are funding them for you

Which CCG do you come under??

Fantastic news, that must be such a huge relief for you. I am very happy for you. 🙂🙂

I was one of the first in the country to buy these. The info they give is brilliant 😉. I know you have heard it before but in my 50th year of T1 I climbed Scar-Fell in the serious rain with PERFECT bg on a breakfastl of porridge 🙂

Great news am so pleased for you.
Hope many others are successful. My diabetic nurse at review laughed when I enquired about getting one.
Pity national health was national and not a postcode lottery as with other much needed medical requirements.
I was beginning to think no one would get one.

Fantastic!😛

Fantastic news. I look forward to seeing it in Bristol.

Congratulations! Wonderful news.

So my first prescription has gone in for Libre sensors, along with any others for whom the GP received a letter from our consultants.

I had prepared and collated the evidence to support each of the requirements but this was not needed, as the consultants and DSNs had collated a list of people that met the constraints set by CCG and then sent out letters to our GPS

The criteria from our CCG are

The GP
- has evidence that we have had all our checks each year, and we were on target for everything and had a flu jab.
- believes that there is a clinical need that will be fulfilled by the provision
- believes that the current use of blood glucose testing strips will be reduced.

And
The patient
- has Type 1 Diabetes and is interested in having access to the Libre
- has completed a structured education course
- is well motivated to manage all the clinical risks (not just HbA1c)
- educated to respond to the information provided by the Libre
- is a non smoker

I tick all those boxes!
I suspect that a lot of people will meet these criteria, however the CCG set a limit in numbers, and left it to the team to decide on allocations. They will review it and check that we are behaving well !!!
