Does anyone have any suggestions to get rid of the sticky residue left after removing the sensor

Baby oil or petroleum jelly or probably surgical spirit or nail varnish remover.

Some oil on a cotton pad gets it off super easily for me.

Nail varnish remover - the stuck without acetone (which is most of the stuff you can buy nowadays)
I also lightly pumice my residue.
