Libre 2 sensor use

I initially got a libre for free to monitor myself after a fairly disastrous hba1c of 107. It was a game changer

Two months later and its showing an estimated figure of 71, I'm 'data driven' and have used it to experiment with certain foods to see what they do. At £55 a go its not cheap though but it works for me and gives me focus and I feel better in myself

Its also incredibly annoying seeing my BG spike when I have a Banana

But also pretty predictable! Bananas are one of the highest carb fruits and most people trying to manage their diabetes partially or totally through diet, restrict portion size or mostly avoid bananas because they are so high carb. I probably have about 2 bananas a year and if I have one I cut it in half and have half one day and the other half the next. They are just not worth the BG upheaval to eat regularly.

I went to my surgery pharmacist to ask for the 2+ update to my prescription and she said they were going to do that for all T1s but there was a question about continuing them for T2s. This may be becoming common practice with the need to check costs. I feel that this is still seen as a ‘luxury’ item and limiting prescriptions to only T1s could cut their bill significantly. There is something of a ‘postcode lottery’ feel to prescribing CGMs and it seems to depend on how your surgery perceives their value both to the patient and their bottom line.

I know up here in Scotland, type 1 get the monitor but everyone I know on type 2 does not , I volunteer in the hospital and all types 2 are not happy on paying for it. I’m on my last libre 2 then going on to the 2+, is it the same type of monitor ?

Yes, Libre 2 Plus is identical to Libre 2 in appearance but lasts an extra day ie. 15 days instead of 14. Phone app and reader both work exactly the same with it.
