Hello,

Does anyone know if the Libre 2 alarms functionality will be available via a smart phone App and not just the Libre 2 reader.

I never use my Libre 1 reader just my smart phone. Alarms on the App would be useful.

Thanks,

Yes they are. I have used them on my phone with LibreLink. Like you I never use the reader because it is something else to lug around with me.
I understand the alarms are only on the device you use to activate the sensor. So if you want the alarms on your phone, do not activate the sensor with the reader.

I believe you can only have the alarms on the device you start the sensor with, so if you start it with the Smart Phone then you will have the alarms on there, if you start it with the reader then just the reader will have the alarms.

This is frustratingly true.

Additionally, if you want to use both the reader and your phone, you have to start with the reader first. Which then means you cant have alarms on your phone.

Which kinda backs you into a ‘no reader’ corner if you want alarms on your phone at any point.

Which is why never use reader now, only to test bg. Phone always with me so not big issue, only time it would be is if phone broke, once sensor is started by it you can't use reader at all for scanning, that is something abbott need to sort out.

Unlike most people these days, I'm not umbilically attached to my phone. I do use the reader more than the phone for the simple reason that it fits into the top pocket of my PJs. My mobile would just slip out and disappear into the bed somewhere. And I like to have the reader around for doing BG and occasionally Ketone testing.

Of course you can use the reader for scanning if the phone is out of commission. You simply have to use the reader within an hour of starting it with the phone, and both will read the sensor quite happily from that time onwards. Its not something Abbott needs to sort out, it's you who needs to read the instruction book. I do it the other way round, fire the sensor up with the reader then do a reading with the phone, which then tells you that you can use it plus the device you started the sensor with, and that you can't have alarms on the phone. It's just a routine part of sensor changing. Then I can use either, whichever is closer to hand.

The disadvantage of using the reader is that I have to plug it into the computer to input data into LibreView, for a complete picture. The phone App does that automatically, the reader doesn't have the computing power to do that.

I use librelink and xdrip and can get alarms on both but can turn it off on librelink.

Phone all the way, using the reader just means having another piece of junk in your pocket and phone app tells you everything you need to know without firing up a pc and downloading.
connected to my Apple Watch through the phone so phone just needs to be somewhere near and I get alarms on the watch

To use both you HAVE to start with the reader @mikeyB - so if you *mostly* want to use your phone, but occasionally value the reader (eg for when your phone is attached to the wall recharging), then it has to be reader first, phone second, and no alarms on the phone. Which is a bit annoying.

Well tried that with first libre 2 sensor & reader said it can't be used as started by another device, that was within mins of starting it by phone. Current sensor runs out on tuesday so will try again.

No need for that attitude, you do it to many times on here.

Just to confirm for MikeyB. Changed sensor this morning, started it with phone to get alarms, scanned with reader & got this message.

Sensor Already in Use. The sensor you just scanned was started by another Reader and cannot be used with this one.
