I was told to do my levemir on waking & when going to bed ~ I always manage to do my morning dose of levemir on waking which is usually around 7am ish but I'm never sure what to do re the bedtime dose ie should I do this while I'm still sat downstairs watching tv or should I be doing it when I actually get into bed ~ if it's the latter the times can vary

I think basal insulins usually respond better to relatively fixed, regular timings (well within an hour or two perhaps?).

If you generally take them at more or less similar times of day it menas there isn't an extra variable of dose timing to consider.

I would aim for roughly the same time morning and evening. That was what I was advised anyway.

I thought the same thing when I was changed to Levemir, but it doesn’t seem to make a great deal of difference if the variable bedtime is less than a couple of hours. At least, according to my Libre. I do, however, take the bedtime dose at around the usual time if I’m up watching the American Football final:D

I think something to bear in mind is, how likely are you to remember your injection? Sometimes, doing it at bedtime means that if you forget, it's forgotten for ever, whereas doing it earlier in the evening gives you a chance to remember it before bedtime. ( having said that, I've just switched to Levemir, and I'm doing mine as I go to bed, and when I wake up, and I just keep the pen and a stock of needles on the bedside table. Haven't forgotten yet! My bedtimes tend not to vary by more than half an hour, though)

Stock of needles? My Click-fine diamond tip needles last a whole penful if I don’t bend them. (Newbies, please ignore this.) And no, they don’t hurt. I’m saving NHS Scotland so much money that each time I order a box of needles, I have to remind the surgery which ones they are - they don’t go on regular repeat!

The trick to remember the bedtime dose is to mentally attach it to another action, like letting the dog or cat out, locking the doors etc. The other tip is don’t drink alcohol in the evening.

Why no alcohol? Do you mean in case of forgetting to take it 🙄 or must we abstain forever 😱
I was hoping for some vino later tonight o_O
I've already bolused my Levermir this evening, I try to do mine approx 12 hours apart. I have forgotten a couple of times, but that was when working and stone cold sober 🙄

Well rising and bedtime tends to be longer - a lot longer! - than 12 hours apart - so mine were rising around 7.30 to 8.00 am and then around 9.30pm 'ish'.

My injecting times are to fit in with my night shifts, just makes it easier for me to remember.

Thank you for all the replies 🙂

I decided to take my evening dose at 7pm instead of taking it at bedtime which is various times ie 10:30pm, 11:00pm etc ~ I take my morning dose at 7am ~ I'm now worried about what the consequences will be

After doing my levemir at 7pm which was teatime I then had a 4.3 at bedtime which was lower than my target range ~ I had some supper which I bolused for then as I was eating I felt very low/hypo & ended up clearing the kitchen by eating 4 Lotus Biscoff biscuits & 2 choc ices at which point I stopped myself from eating any more!
