I have a slice of lemon in my tea and have been buying unwaxed lemons .It says to wash before use but I thought that if I am putting it in piping hot tea I am not going to catch any bugs ,then I read the label properly and found that they are treated with 2chemicals which are both poison so now I wash my lemons in hot soapy water ,rinse well and dry thoroughly

Must admit I was surprised to see a recipe that used lemon zest recommended using a stiff vegetable brush and hot soapy water to clean the lemon. Makes you wonder if all citrus fruit peel is treated with the same chemicals

Pete thinks I'm batty attacking them with a stiff brush under the hot tap - but tell you what - anything like that - especially warming them up generally - causes loads more juice to be 'let out'.
