Got the results of hba1c test last week. Increased to 73 mmol/mol. Very disappointed with myself. Not totally unexpected as I found it difficult to resist the Christmas sweet treats and did a lot of socialising as well. Looks like the diabetic fairy gave me a good trouncing for falling off the wagon!
Telephone review with the nurse this morning and owned up to my misdemeanors. She suggested 2 options. Add dapaglifozin to existing meds or increase gliclazide to max dose. Decided to increase gliclazide as I am tolerating it well, and have a long history of UTI's and thrush prior to diagnosis so don't fancy dapaglifozin side effects.
Already upped the exercise regime and getting diet back on track. I have reached target weight now. Happy with size and muscle mass increase. Hair much better condition and skin fits again.
Nice finish to the review as nurse said my BG is much better than a year ago. Next review in 3 months.

@silver minion I've long admired your resilience. I'm conscious having had an hba1c of 44 Christmas Eve ( taken on 10th) that I have slipped on the exercise and often eat too many carbs. I was put on dapaglifozin in September on basis good for diabetes and good for cardiovascular and my metformin reduced to two. Since then I haven't planned my food as well as I could as keep worrying about enough carbs. My reading was 58 when it was added.
I haven't had thrush or uti on it but I am peeing too much.
I think you've made the right decision to up a drug you are used to rather than change. Summers coming easier for food gardening walks etc.

Good luck.

I am really finding it difficult to get back into the routine which gave me good results, so well done on getting back on track.
I should be eating twice a day and at around 12 hourly intervals - here we are at almost 2 in the afternoon and I still have not eaten anything yet again.

I think I would be on floor on only 2 meals a day. My metabolism seems to work better on 3 or 4 smaller meals daily. If BG or BP goes too low I pass out. Was one of those kids who regularly fainted at morning assembly. As a lifelong skinny I had very little fat reserves to draw on and BP has always been low to normal.
Hope that by the time you have read this you have eaten.

Thanks for your kind comments. I still think that despite my diabetes I have been extremely fortunate with my health. Most issues have been short term and self limiting. My hat goes off to those of you dealing with other health problems in addition to your diabetes management every day. That takes a good deal of resilience and patience.
Looking forward to summer with plenty of homegrown veg, salads and fruit. Potting up strawberries this afternoon ready for the fruit cage, and a few extras for SiL who is visiting this weekend.

@silver minion I've never fainted but have always loved my food. However I don't think my sister has fainted and her GP put her in a study of those forever slim!
I'm seeing the diabetes nurse next week so hope may get some idea of a plan or guidance. I hope I may go on a course

I had to tell myself to go and eat, as I am going out to morris practice tonight - perhaps I should start to do a blog - or maybe post what I am, or am not eating. Some sort of accountability - I just realised I have left my coffee to go cold.
I never used to eat breakfast - but once diagnosed and checking my BG levels I could see that eating a proper meal first thing was a good idea, and once I got used to it I did feel a lot better and more energised.

Yes my hubby is a bit like that. He gets distracted and forgets to eat or lets his tea/coffee go cold. Food post sounds a good idea!
Hope the morris practice goes well. I would like to see a photo of all your group in costume (with faces blurred if they wish).

@silver minion if you’ve previously had a history of UTI’s - then yes a good choice to steer clear of the ‘flizozines that a lot of the HCP’ seem to like to prescribe T2’s at the moment
understand your slightly disappointed to find your Hba1c has increased compared to your previous one
but hopefully the increase of Glicazide will help or the change of diet

I am hoping the increase in gliclazide will give my pancreas a bit of a bump start while the revised diet starts to take effect along with more exercise. My plan this year is still to get HbA1c under 48 and stable. Then work on reducing medication. It may be a bumpy ride but reading about others success stories has confirmed it is possible. I am fortunate that the nurse is happy to discuss and agree a plan at each review.
