Novo Nordisk to withdraw Levemir insulin – here's what you need to know

The drug manufacturer Novo Nordisk has announced it will withdraw Levemir insulin in all forms by the end of 2026. Here, we look at what this means for people with diabetes who are affected, and what happens next.

Disgraceful IMO as they know they can make more money from so-called weight loss drugs that they have tripled the price of - Humulin I for me as it's much more flexible - Lantus (had it before) and Tresiba can do one

No, they’re not. The Hypurin cartridges are still available, both isophane and neutral. It’s the only animal insulin available now and has users worldwide.
Great to know - thanks Inka 🙂

No problem @mashedupmatt Animal insulin is really important and should be available for everyone who wants it. Too often people are told it’s not available any more or ‘wouldn’t work’ when, in fact, it can give better hypo signs and improved well-being.

A not insignificant number of people can’t tolerate human insulin well:

Isn't that made by Wockhart rather than Novo Nordisk though?

Yes, Hypurin insulins are made by Wockhardt in the U.K. But the link showed a list of alternative basals to Levemir, and omitted Hypurin Isophane - which is a very good alternative to Levemir. Humulin i isn’t made by NovoNordisk either, nor are others there.
