Last night I had a later than usual teatime which was 20:18pm so my bedtime for an accurate reading would be approx 4 hours later at 00:18am. At around 23:00pm I was wanting my supper so what time would you say bedtime was in this case?

I don't think there is ever going to be a definitive answer to these questions Gill.

Each of us works out our own system that seems to generally suit us, and then adapts and changes it as we go along.

Some will be able to be completely disciplined and only ever do things in exactly the same way - but most of us would find that very difficult, if not impossible.

For me it is a case of trying to adapt to different situations with the experience gained so far.

I have certainly had nights where i have decided to stay up, even though dog-tired, so that some insulin (and late food) on board would have mostly gone through my system. On other nights I just make my best guess, go to bed and either set an alarm to wake me overnight or take precautionary action when I go to bed.

Gill, I think you were correct with your 4 hour rule. No rapid acting insulin before bed.

Although if that were me (depending on BG level) I would have ensured that anything I ate as supper did not need a bolus. I generally don’t eat supper these days.
