😱 After 2 years on victoza, the wonder drug is not working for me, my sugars are way too high and I have lost control, I used to take lantus optiset ( no longer avaiable) before Victoza, but at least I could adjust the dosage if my sugars rose or dropped.
i am collectng my lantus Solostar today and wonder what doesage I should start with? My sugars are 12 -14 on waking and get as high as 21 after meals. I also take 4 metformin and 4 glicazide a day. any advice would be appreciated. thanks

your gp or dsn should have told you which dosage to start on contact them welcome to the site

Hi Linda, welcome to the forum 🙂 I'm afraid no-one here can advise you on the likely dose as everyone is different - I've seen doses vary from 2 to 100! 😱 As Gail says, you need to ask your GP or nurse what doses you need. It may take a few adjustments to find a suitable dose for you, so be patient. They usually start you off on a fairly low dose so that you are at less risk of a low blood sugar. Initially, you may experience the symptoms of a low blood sugar (hypo), without actually being low, as your body adapts to the lower levels achieved with the insulin - it's important to test if you feel these symptoms so you know what the situation is.

Do you drive? If so, you will need to inform the DVLA as there are extra rules when you are on insulin. You will need a good supply of test strips, so make sure your doctor prescribes these. 🙂

By the way, the 'optiset' and 'solostar' terms are just the names of the pens used for delivery and they have variable doses - it's not fixed doses as you may be used to with the Victoza. I hope the new regime works well for you

You will normally be started on a low dose and gradually increase by 2 units every 3 days until you reach a level that works. As the others have said your GP or nurse will tell you what your initial dose should be.

Good luck with the Lantus, hope it gets your BG's under control.
