Hi,
I was on all the various oral meds, all of them resulted in terrible stomach pain and nausea etc. I had a scan that showed severe gastritis and erosion of the stomach lining.
I already take another injection subQ medication, so they thought I would be a good candidate for insulin. Went on Lantus one injection daily. They put me on 6 units and it did nothing really, but I felt ok. They upped the dose to 8 and said we would increase by 2 each week that my bloods remained in double digits pre meal.
As soon as I upped the dose to 8 units - stomach pain is back, really bad, worse than Metformin. As in cling to the floor bad. Pain in my stomach searing through my back...back feels like it is made of glass. Terrible nausea. I am on 3 anti emetics a day anyway - doesn't touch it. Also on Lansoprazole 30mg three times a day...like taking nothing.
I was put on insulin to make treatment bearable and escape these stomach issues. Is this just Lantus? Has anyone else heard of this? Will I be ok on a different insulin,.or is this it?
My numbers are not low, it's not hypos. Numbers pre meal are around 11typically, but have been as low as 8.6. but that is pre meal.
Last thing and this is super weird.
It feels like the glands in my neck are going to fall out, throbbing. Y'know how it feels when you have a heavy cold or the flu and you lean over and your head feels huge and heavy, like you have fluid in your head...it's like that with my neck. It would be bothering me a lot more, but the pain in the stomach and back are so bad it bleaches it out lol.
I would have thought 8 units was nothing/minor and I can't see how upping the dose by such a small amount can cause such a reaction?
P.S
My diabetes is minor...the problem is, I can't find any treatment that does not cause a severe reaction and without treatment my vision is blurred, I'm thirsty non stop, and my pre existing nerve damage is exacerbated and I get electric shocks non stop in my feet. Nerve damage from Chemotherapy - Cisplatin.
