Just got back from New Zealand. I was a bit concerned about taking Lantus, my background insulin, and planned to take it at the same UK time every day. This ment taking Lantus every 24hrs, at 10pm, like I do here in UK. So I set a clock to UK time and every day when the clock said 10pm I took the Lantus. When its 10pm in UK its 11am in New Zealand. All was well for a couple of days then when I awoke my BS readings started to rise 10.7 - 13.8. After 5 days I decided to do the Lantus injectin at 10pm New Zealand time. Within 2 days I was awaking to 5.0 - 5.7 BS readings. Next time we visit my brother I will be taking Lantus at 10pm NZ time as this is much better than keeping UK time. New Zealand has a first class health service. Most New Zealanders also have an insurance scheme to assist with hospital, doctor and prescription fees but emergency treatment is free and very good as my brother has found out. AM.

I imagine it had something to do with your body clock and when your liver was releasing the most glucose, coupled with a tail off of the lantus. When's the next trip to confirm things? 😉

I think I read somewhere to hotch it forward an hour or so, but if you only had a fortnight, you'd hardly get it sorted by the time you came home. I was already on Levemir when we went to Oz, so it was easy.

But Lantus, I'd miss the first dose at 10pm British, because you'd be awake till 10pm NZ, and just correct with fast acting the first half day.

I take Lantus at 11pm. When I went to NY for 5 days, a week before I left my DSN got me to take my Lantus 2 / 4 / 6 / etc hours earlier as the week went by (at 9pm Fri, 7pm Sat, 5pm Sun...you get the idea!).

When I got to NY that first night, I took my Lantus at 11pm...NY time. It worked a treat. 😛
