I want to buy an accucheck as the glucorx is leaving little scabs all over my fingers. I see there are 2 different ones I can get from amazon or elsewhere online. Any advice on which one would be very welcome.
pat.y, I rang Accu-chek to ask which one would fit my purpose and we decided on the Aviva. She then said, "So, can I have your name and address?" I asked why she wanted me to buy it through her, and she said, "No, we'll send it to you for free!" Result! It arrived two days later. I suppose they make their money out of the replacement lancets and strips. She also said if you register it to activate the guarantee they will also replace the batteries free of charge.
Teadance
Pat - it's a 'Fastclix' bodger with the Aviva - you get that will all their meters now I believe, whereas you used to get the Multiclix. The Fastclix is a slightly smaller body and the little drums of lancets are correspondingly a smaller diameter, but otherwise very much the same. The Multi 'trigger' was on the side, but it's a button on the end of the Fast that you press to 'shoot'.
Well Accucheck couldn't wait to send me a free Aviva and fastclix. I did tell them I may not be able to afford their strips and she said no problem at least you have 10 free ones coming to help conserve your others 🙂

I use the Accu Chek softclix and I really like it. When I got the Contour Next USB they sent a lancing device with it that I couldn't use at all. It hurt and felt quite flimsy so sticking to my softclix!
Oh you'll get on better with the fastclix, I wouldn't be parted from mine now and it was Northerner who suggested it to me I think (my fingers thank you Northerner ). I had the bayer one that came with the contour next originally and you should have seen the state of my fingers. I'm a bit of a sensitive soul skin wise and I bruise well, so when I went to the consultant appointment he gasped in horror because he thought I'd got circulation problems (3 fingers were blue from bruising given that that spring loaded nightmare stabber practically came out the other side of my finger!). He scurried off and got me a fastclix from their cupboard even though I told him they were sending me one. His face was a treat 😛.
Your fingers will thank you Pat.y, they'll be practically giddy. I recommend you adjust the depth setting though, mine was set to maximum when I got it and my fingers didn't thank me for that, no, not at all!
First go was disastrous LOL. Used to my old one having the hole for the lancet in the centre and managed to stab myself in the pad of my finger, really made me jump. Whats all this about using fingertips when I was told to use the side of my finger.
Struggling with Fastclix. Seems so hard to press the button I end up pushing it too hard on my finger and spout blood. Maybe I have it set to high on 2.5 ?
Mine is still set to 0.5 Pat !! I think 1.0 is the highest I ever was, when we were doing building work and I was cleaning old mortar off the bricks with a cold chisel and an 'ommer. Yes of course I wore gloves but as the unskilled labourer I had to make teas and sandwiches in between LOL - so a lot of washing, and my hands were as dry as the old mortar for weeks after.
