Hi out there.I was diagnosed Type 2 Feb 2017 with a Hba1c of 51.Although my GP reassurred me I was borderline I was devastated.I've sort of come to terms with that and did really well losing nearly 2 stone, following a low carb diet(not too strict) and walking more,By Nov 17 HbA1c was 39. I tailed off Metformin stopping it in November. I was pleased as I didn't feel it suited me Painful heavy limbs. My last Hba1c in March was 43 just diet controlled. I've allowed a few little treats back in my diet but never go mad.
To get to the point.I have very little energy now.I used to feel wiped out somedays on Metformin and take to my bed for half a day. This usually coincided with losing a few pounds. My weight is stable now but could lose another stone(10 stone 10lbs now).I find if i do anything strenuous like gardening I'm wiped out for a few days.My legs often feel heavy and ache.A trip to shops and I need to take a nap when i get home.I read about type 2 Diabetics finding renewed energy and feeling 10 years younger after sorting their BG but I haven't felt like that and its impacting on my daily life and enjoying being a granny( I'm 63 but recently I feel I'm ageing too quickly) .Starting to feel quite low.I realise compared to some I'm quite fortunate
I try drinking enough water ,healthy snacks etc.Just wondering about other type 2' s experience re energy levels.Going to try upping my proteins.

Hello @Alinda weocome to the forum. It sounds as though your feeling quite rough.
TBH I think the best thing you can do is to lspeak to your Gp to let them know how you are feeling.
Most of us start to feel much better once our blood glucose *BG) levels have come down
If your blood glucose is high you can feel wiped out but it could also be due to other things, Anaemia for instance, so having a check up would be wise.

Do you test your own blood glucose levels or are you just relying on the Hb1ac.
The trouble with the Hb1ac is that it is an average of what our BG levels have been over the last three months.
A few weeks ago My Hb1ac was 38 but their h@ve been times when I’ve crept up into double figures. So it’s possible your BG levels are going too high at times.

Please go to your gp and please let us know how you are .

Hi Alinda, just a thought but if you've drastically altered your diet to help with blood glucose control, are you sure you're still getting a good balance of nutrients? You may be low in iron or in B vitamins (especially if you used to get plenty of these from carb sources like wholegrains before). Have you tried a vitamin supplement?

Hi @Alinda have you had your thyroid and vit B levels checked? It could be something very simple like being anaemic which would make you feel very rough.
Well done on your weight loss and A1c drop that's a fantastic result.

Hi Alinda, welcome. Sounds like you are having a tough time :( do talk this through with your doctor, it may well be something simple. I had a vitamin D deficiency that made me feel exhausted all the time.

Hi @Alinda and welcome 🙂

It sounds to me as though this might well not be diabetes-related at all, especially as you have done so well with lowering your weight and blood sugar, so I agree with the others that it would be a good idea for you to see your GP. It could easily be a related condition like hypothryoidism, which causes lethargy and achiness, but you'd need to get tests done to find out whether it's that or something else.
